Not sure what it was on, but they did a survey with non-wrestling fans to name the “last ten WWE champions” and Hulk Hogan was mentioned. No-one knew who Roman was and one no-one knew who Daniel Bryan was but one person had seen the “yes” chant at other sports events and didn’t know where it came from.
No-one in current wrestling is a household name. We’re years removed from that ever being a thing.

What are the parameters for being a 'household name'?
The broad reach of the WWE means there are few places in the world he could go without being recognised. So he's pretty famous.

Why are we obsessed with this idea, though?
Like, not everyone is Tom Cruise or Serena Williams or LeBron James here. We don’t need Roman or whoever to be known by most people when business itself is making enough money.
Do people need to know who Jesse Kotton is to know that Yu-Gi-Oh is a successful card game? Or who any eSports person is to watch Call of Duty gameplay?
This always feels like a “We’d like it to be a thing but it isn’t nessesary” thing. Especially since The Miz seems to be the only guy besides Roman that actually ends up on red carpets or as celebrities on things. Like, AEW Rampage was the lead in to his appearence at NBA All-Star Weekend!

“Household name” means you can get mentioned by People Magazine like, within the past month or so. Right now I can get recent article results when I attach “Dwayne Johnson”, “John Cena” or “Hulk Hogan”. So I’d say Roman is still under that, but so what? He’s hardly an unknown, obscure property like early Velvet Underground.
To me there’s a huge gap between ”household name” and “standard famous”. Most of the WWE main eventers I’d put as the latter, honestly.

I’m not really obsessed with the idea but I think as a wrestling fan it’s pretty cool when one of our guys hit the mainstream. I’ve followed Cena since 2004 when he was a rapper so I was Happy for him when he got the recognition he deserved as a mainstream actor and with Roman and the blood line story, I hope he eventually gets his flowers as well (assuming he wants it)

I would say no.
He’s obviously famous and probably well known among casual fans, but to the pop culture world on the whole, not really.
I think outside the wrestling bubble, it’s Hulk Hogan, Dwayne Johnson, John Cena and Dave Bautista in terms of who non-fans would know of.

But Roman’s still making more than anyone in the company not named Brock Lesnar, I don’t think it really matters if he’s doing more Fast and Furious cameos or not. He’s already a success and I don’t think we as a fan base need the validation of it.

Hes probably the most famous ACTIVE wrestler right now. So I'd say in that sense yes.

I live with someone who doesn't watch wrestling.
They know who people like Hogan, Macho Man, The Rock, Austin, even people like Taker and Rey Mysterio.
They don't know who Roman Reigns is.

Oh yeah, I get the bozo mentality on why but it's like...I don't know, man, there are very few major companies right now not doing well and a more spreadout mainstream market for getting eyes on things for various reasons so my response to the question is "Who cares?"

I think in general it's hard for anything to be a household name. Entertainment is so personalized now a days. I would doubt the average person knows a single song off the number 1 album in America let alone who's it by.
