I really liked MJF's performance at the press conference and I hope we see more of that incarnation of him in his promos going forward.

Him as a top level guy that still puts over opponents while thinking he's better than them and wanting to work as little as possible was a lot better than just like "lemme come up with a new evil backstory >;3 guy"

Character-wise he's really straining right now but people who say he works like The Miz have to be watching a different show because that match was so much.

Didn't see the match, not going to offer opinions on that, but at least for me one good night isn't enough to rectify how little interest I have in him as a character or performer at this point and how much the idea of him being champion for ten more months utterly kills my interest in the main event scene for the foreseeable future. Like, Reigns has had some great matches in his title reign and I still wouldn't hesitate to call the entirety of it abysmal.
Not saying he can't win me back over by any means, just that's not really a, "See, he had one good match, all is forgiven!" thing for me.

I gotta give both him and Danielson major props for making a near 65 minute match seem shorter than most 30 minute matches I suffer through with New Japan the last few years lol and also keeping me invested in it throughout it all.

There are at least a dozen wrestlers in AEW, probably more, who could have a 5* match with Bryan Danielson. His wrestling, when he does it, has never been a problem.

I do feel like MJF spends so much time constantly in character that he kind of just reads as genuinely being a total prick. I'm not even sure who he is as a genuine person. Like, if you're so hell-bent on maintaining kayfabe, that must make you extremely unpleasant to be around, especially when you waffle from "I AM THE DEVIL!!!" to "my girlfriend left me, and I'm going to kill myself if I lose this belt". I mean... who *are* you at this point? I've unintentionally seen him with his guard down. He's a really nice down to earth person. I dunno if thats the case anymore

MJF has always been great in the ring in AEW. His matches with Jungle Boy and Darby were two of my favorite AEW matches in 2020 and 2021.

That Iron Man match may legit be the best one I've ever seen. For an hour-long match it flew by and there were no blatant "dead air" spots with restholds and the like. I'm struggling to think of one I enjoyed more.

MJF REALLY needed a showcase like this tonight, I just hope he gets like a big picture narrative now that he's the guy and not "let me post the most shocking AITA story I made up five minutes ago" promos as his main storytelling thrust I'll repeat, I think the last 2 or 3 weeks they recovered the angle a bit, but I don't think having the focus be on Danielson doing a gauntlet worked as it should. For one, and I've said it before, this is the 3rd time they've done an angle like this with MJF. For the other, MJF was not as involved on screen as much as he was in the past... at least compared to the Jericho and Wardlow feuds. So rather than it coming off as MJF trying to take Danielson out, it just seemed more like Danielson was just wrestling. All great matches, but attention wasn't on MJF/Danielson enough and more so just on Danielson. So I said in another thread, I think the next thing to do is build towards Hangman vs MJF
The Gauntlet wouldve worked better with Punk because his creativity wouldve helped hiding the weaknesses.

Probably the Ricky match but imo that had more to do with Ricky(his face offense is very hit or miss imo)

Huge fan of the guy but I wanted to see how he reacted to loosing the title, and I really wanted Bryan to be Champion

I really liked MJF's performance at the press conference and I hope we see more of that incarnation of him in his promos going forward. Definitely interesting how things can be taken in two completely different ways... I was the polar opposite and felt he spent the entire press conference detailing his frustration with being compared to the Miz and continuing to take cheap shots. It all circled back around to "what about now" and was a bit hard to take seriously. He also detailed his intense cardio (dude looks fn amazing) but had like 8 unnecessary bottled water spots. I don't think MJF knows what he even wants to convey at this point

Yeah I thought the Miz comparisons where all character rather than wrestling based. Can't deny his talent in-ring.

It was a really good match.
I am SO GLAD this feud is over, I found it so tedious it's part of why I stopped watching.
But like. It wasn't inherently good just because it was long. I'm impressed with his cardio, particularly as a guy who hardly ever wrestles, and it was good, but... I think I believed Danielson might win for about two minutes of that match. I'm actually kind of amazed they managed that in itself, but like. Who is next? Where is left for his character to go? He's not been champion that long, had barely any feuds, and I'm already kind of sick of him, and the fact that his work is good is unfortunately not the entire point
