I can't remember the last time a babyface turn breathed so much life into a character as this one.
I can think of plenty of heel turns that do that, but it feels rarer this way round. I love that it's almost like MJF is parodying what babyfaces do, like he doesn't quite understand how to be a good guy. But he's genuinely trying.
Ever since Hangman lost to Punk and was sort of de-pushed, I've felt AEW have needed a big home grown babyface star to really get things moving again. MJF is 100% that guy.

I think he's in the running for wrestler of the year for 2023. World champ for all of it so far, part of the biggest and best storyline in AEW all year, multiple fantatsic matches against a variety of opponents and match styles, main evented arguably the biggest show of the year. In ring, promos, skits, star appeal. He's got it all in spades. I am not sure I am ready to take that away from OC yet...He changed my entire perception of him with his title run even if I wasn't a fan of the promo he cut on the Aug. 30th Dynamite for his character That's fair, personally I'd have both OC and Mox ahead of MJF in my personal 'Wrestler of the Year' rankings...but the fact I'm even considering him after a really flat first half of the year speaks to how good Max has been since May.

Part of why I like Max in this “Insincere Ace of AEW” position is because, well, who else do they have ready at the moment? It’s going to be tougher for them while WWE is doing solid business, and they do need that figurehead star like how Okada and Naito are for NJPW or Roman and Cody in WWE to make drawing those big gates a bit easier. Cole, Darby, Omega, Page and some others are hovering around to potentially fill that role but TK hasn’t committed to them as much (and Punk wanted that spot obviously but we know how *that* turned out). And it could have been Starks or Jungle Boy at this point but they’re evil now (and Guevara IMO is a far better shithead heel, he should be in Gunn Club instead of with Callis) I’d be okay with MJF re-summoning The Devil if they can get a new babyface star equally as hot.
Not to mention there’s strong heels like Takeshita, a resurgent Roderick and Strickland on the rise who Max can work with if Tony chooses to stick with the Noble Scumbag character.

I think MJF should be positioned as AEW’s face, in both senses of the term, for the next few years. There’s still just the matter of ‘we don’t know how long Max is signed for’. There’s been no reporting about it, even after that’s stopped being a kayfabe storyline. A quick search has this from February: whatculture.com/wwe/exclusive-update-on-mjfs-aew-contract-statusI know the assumption is that Tony Khan must have signed a deal and he’d be crazy not to and all that, but a lot of solid wrestling assumptions have turned out to be wrong.

Swerve Strickland, in particular, would be very interesting for face MJF to feud with. Mainly because Swerve could easily be in the spot of unlikable dickhead heel that Max was in formerly and it’d be fun to see the two bounce off of each other like that.
