MJF turned around a monstrously underwhelming run full of really bad material into one of the best parts of AEW. He always had it in him to do better and this is that better, and he's just more compelling an act in this capacity than he was doing the lamest, cheapest shit day in and day out. Even when he goes heel again I think he's finding a rounded idea of a deeper, fuller character who would be way more worth seeing on TV. I still maintain that the only bad part of the reign was the Danielson feud which they spent way too much time on show Danielson is great at wrestling than building the match.

I want him to keep being a scumbag and leaning into the heelish tropes even as a face. Last night was good for that. But sometimes I think he goes a little too generic white meat babyface. If he can get that balance right I think the skys the limit for where this character can go.

He's the man right now. Although I've been knowing that since 2019.

Max has become a Puckish rogue and that makes me so happy. Like he still cheats and takes shortcuts whenever he can, but it's in a "oh you rascal!" way.
He really is our scumbag.

He definitely needed this quasi-face run to freshen himself up. The "Mr. Low-Hanging Fruit" act had worn thin and this is a welcome break from it.

I think people will look back on this title run when it's over and appreciate as one of the better world title reigns in recent memory. Dude has been killing it.

I thought the Takeshita mini-feud was really weak, and I felt like his material in general really suffered until he was put into the Pillars program and seemed truly motivated with his promos to put people over and do more than just the absolute cheapest work. He found his footing better in a feud he seemed really motivated in and clearly wanted, and then elevated that higher afterward with this Cole stuff.

I’m glad MJF has come out and said he didn’t see the antisemitic sign in the front row the other night before his match. That either could have ended being a really messy scene, or at least you know that shit would have been in his head during the match.

So I just figured it out.
He's the reverse Bo Dallas.
He's a face who thinks he's a heel.

I think he's in the running for wrestler of the year for 2023. World champ for all of it so far, part of the biggest and best storyline in AEW all year, multiple fantatsic matches against a variety of opponents and match styles, main evented arguably the biggest show of the year. In ring, promos, skits, star appeal. He's got it all in spades.

I am not sure I am ready to take that away from OC yet...He changed my entire perception of him with his title run even if I wasn't a fan of the promo he cut on the Aug. 30th Dynamite for his character

Oh yeah even the Pillars feud had its issues. A lot of issues. Overall I'm real down on the Pillars feud. But it felt like MJF was getting out of the really basic comfort zone of cheap heel work. He had something in his promos that was just different and away from the really rote lazy shit he was doing. I think he went really deep into the usual material when the Punk feud fizzled out and he had the Moxley stuff instead, and then the Regal stuff that was just writing him off of TV. It wasn't anything living up to his hype until he started feuding with guys his age and in a position to have to try and thread the needle on still putting them over while doing MJF stuff.

I keep saying the Pillars feud should have been either do the 4 way match on a special Dynamite, the one who got screwed then spins off into a 1 on 1 match with MJF at the PPV. Or (my preferred way imo) they each get singles matches and MJF weasels out of losing and then you do the 4 way at the PPV. Would have been much more interesting and less of a waste of time.

I am loving this title run now, MJF as our scumbag is just such a great character and his friendship with Adam Cole adds so many layers to it, there are so many directions it could go, and now it's really starting to benefit other dudes on the roster. Samoa Joe has looked great this past month, the best Joe has been for a long time, Strong has knocked it out of the park with his character work, and The Kingdom, one dude who was considered one of the blandest dudes ever to step foot inside a ring and another who was the Justin Credible of RoH, are also starting to shine in their roles.
