In the series, Cap is referred to as "Colonel America". Did they ever explain why he's called that in the alternate universe?

Because in the Marvel Zombies universe Captain (Colonel) America was the President of the United States for a I believe one term.

He opened some fried chicken restaurants and thought Colonel sounded better for buisness.

The real reason that Cap was referred to as Colonel was so that casual readers would be clued in that this was an alternate universe.

The real reason that Cap was referred to as Colonel was so that casual readers would be clued in that this was an alternate universe. I believe this explanation makes the most sense. How they would explain that in, for lack of a better term, "Comic kayfabe", is beyond me. but at least that explains it from the "making it easier on the readers" standpoint.

To put it simply, it's about a virus that contaminates all the heroes and villians in the Marvel Universe and turns them all into Zombies and, as a result, they wipe out the Human Race except a really tiny minorty. In the mini series, they basically go about trying to survive as Zombies before the Surfer and Galactus come down. The new one off issue, Dead Days, would have more emphasis on the actual virus and how it came to the Universe. So, in a way, its Marvel's 28 Days Later.

Man, where's Madison when you really need him? Coincidentally enough, I've been away working on something related to Marvel Zombies. Basic answer is two-fold, both already answered here: In this reality he was also President for a time, plus it's to make an unsubtle nudge that it's an alternate reality. This world's all screwy that way. Nextwave and Power Pack are around before Silver Surfer and Galactus arrive on Earth for the first time? 70s version of Luke Cage on the Avengers team? Etc., etc. Those who are following it need to pick up the latest issues of Black Panther too. While MZ: Dead Days and MZs vs. Army of Darkness are prequels, what's happening in BP is a sequel to the original MZ series.

There's a lot of things that confuse me about Marvel Zombies......
How does Wolverine get infected, with his super healing factor? Or sabretooth?
How do people with inpenetrable or super hard skin get infected since it takes a break of the skin to actually get infected. People like Colossus in his metal form, Thing, Juggernaut with the Gem of Cytorrak, Wonder Man. Wouldn't Mr. Fantastic be hard to infect since he's all rubber? Or Blackheart, since he's supernatural, the son of Mephisto. How does Ghost Rider get infected?
In Dead Days, the heroes make no sense whatsoever. Why don't they just stay at a distance and keep blasting guys from long range? Why would you send in wolverine to start mixing it up since all it takes is a bite for him to get infected, when you could just have Magneto sit way back from where ever, and just hurl chunks of metal into and through all the other heroes, or have cyclops keep blasting people from long range, or Thor and Storm keep hurling lightning bolts at people?
How the hell does Galactus manage to lose, even to a bunch of guys who have a portion of the Silver Surfer's power? Since when does Galactus' form even make him vulnerable. Last I knew, that form was "merely how he willed himself to appear", and it was more along the lines of him appearing in some sort of astral form, and humans couldn't harm him in the physical sense of the word. I know that from when Susan Storm hurled a force field spike through him, and it didn't even faze him.
Why doesn't Magneto just start bringing people up to Asteroid M by himself, and otherwise not make his presence known?
What happened to the book's sense of humor?

There's a lot of things that confuse me about Marvel Zombies...... How does Wolverine get infected, with his super healing factor? Or sabretooth? It killed off his healing factor, sort of like when certain diseases kill red or white blood cells. A lot of those are unrevealed as yet, but Thing wasn't bitten, he was injected with the virus by... ...who purposely allowed himself to become infected.
