If Mel Brooks had gotten his way, Blazing Saddles would have starred Richard Pryor and John Wayne as Bart and Waco, respectively. The studio nixed Pryor because of his drug issues, and Wayne passed because of the foul language in the script.

I don't know if it would have been better or worse, but Clerks 2 with Sarah Silverman as Becky instead of Rosario Dawson would have been interesting. All things considered, Silverman is a more natural fit for Kevin Smith movies. She's a stoner and has a similar comedy style. Kevin thought as much, up until he first had Rosario on set and saw her casually talking with his wife and Jason Mewes about anal bleaching, at which point he realised she'd fit right in. Also, Rosario is a far superior actress, and I say that as a big fan of Sarah.

Over the years, John Travolta was named as being up for the role of Forrest Gump. While I like Travolta and think he could have been decent, there's no way the movie work with him as Forrest

Leo DiCaprio potentially starring in American Psycho is the ur-example for me. I don’t know how true the Gloria Steinem “don’t scare off those teen girls!” rumors are and her take is a whole other thing, and I think Bale was very good, but man, dude would have beast moded that part. Agreed and I am assuming his inclusion probably would have swayed away from Mary Harron's vision and screenplay into more of the darker side of the book.

David Jason was the fifth choice to play Del Boy in OFAH. One who turned it down was Jim Broadbent who went on to play the bent copper Roy Slater in the show and then had a massive successful on-screen career in his autumn years.
GOT: the actor who played Ramsey originally auditioned for Jon Snow, Gillian Anderson also turned a role down but didn't say which one (probably Cersei or Catlyn given her age and star power).

Obviously he got it eventually but Pierce Brosnan was originally offered the role of James Bond for The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill but couldn't take it due to his commitments to Remington Steele.
I personally think Timothy Dalton was great in Licence to Kill, but I know at the time there were criticisms as his portrayal of Bond had moved to more serious and deadly after Roger Moore's lighter take on the character. It would have been interesting to see how Brosnan would have portrayed Bond in that film.

When the first Iron Man was in pre-production, Jon Favreau pushed hard for RDJ as the title character, but Paramount considered that a non-starter due to the cost of the insurance rider and wanted Tom Cruise for the role. Cruise was willing to do it, and negotiations were underway when Mel Gibson stepped up and offered to cover the insurance bond for them to cast RDJ, and the studio acquiesced to what the director wanted. Think Cruise would've done a great job, but it's tough to imagine how he would've fit in among a ton of other stars as the MCU developed. Without getting a chance to show he could take big roles and stay clean, RDJ also might've spent the rest of his career in supporting roles or indie productions. Given how he behaved during the production of The Mummy, it would have been a nightmare production with endless rewrites to make him happy at the expense of the rest of the cast and the audience. It'd have done well, but not as well.

Godfather III, Winona Ryder as Mary. How differently would that film have been remembered?

Don Corsacelli originally wanted Demi Moore for Kiri and Klaus Kinski for Maax in Beastmaster. Producer forced Tanya Roberts on him. They couldnt come to an agreement with Kinski.

It'd have done well, but not as well. I'm pretty sure they didn't have a script when they started shooting so there would have been rewrites regardless. Sam Rockwell was also under consideration for Tony Stark.

Godfather III, Winona Ryder as Mary. How differently would that film have been remembered? Well, she would have acted a lot better than Sofia Coppola.

I do like Christian Bale's approach, modeling his performance on seeing someone, I think Tom Cruise, on a talk show and thinking his laugh seemed put-on and surface level. Also, I do think it's funny if Gloria did talk Leo out of it, considering she'd later become Christian Bale's stepmom. No, seriously, look it up.
