What were the long term plans for this title run? WWE doing an audible and sliding in Hogan there ended his run after only one month.
There must have been long term plans when him around before his return at Royal Rumble. There's no way the original run was planned for one month as it was.
Was he taking the title and defending it against the nWo all summer?

I don't know if it's ever been said, but yeah, between Hogan being insanely over and the Jericho feud being so goddamn bad, it kind of forced their hand. If it was just one or the other, they could have stuck with their guns, but not both.

Wonder if he would have lost it to Rock or Brock.

It was a smart move to give Hogan the belt. I don't remember much from this time period, but I do remember not really liking the main event scene that much. This is when I started getting more into the midcard guys. However, Hogan with the Title just made sense.

I think it was supposed to be a longer title run before Hogan came back into the picture.
I can see him losing the title during the summer when he rejects the advances of the nWo in some type of screwjob.

It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, they did something on Raw related to finding a challenger for HHH, but then on Smackdown Vince revealed that the rules of the draft allowed him first pick of opponent since back then the Undisputed title floated.

I would imagine the plan was to beat Jericho into the ground. First a Backlash rematch, then Hell in a Cell to end it. Kind of like what later happened with Batista.
We got lucky Hogan caught fire because the Mania match being terrible wouldnt normally be enough to stop them.
