I want to know, do any fellow crappers here work the graveyard shift? As part of my job, I have to work it for a 6 month rotation, 9 pm-8 am. What I wanna know, is how do you manage your sleep time? No matter what I do, I can't seem to get enough sleep during the day. Any advice?

If you like to go out at night then you can kiss your night life goodbye. But if the pay is good, then go for it and good luck staying awake during the day.

I work nights and here is what I do. I'll get home do whatever for an hour and then go to sleep. I wake up when I do and then do whatever. I normally get 6-8 hours that way.

I work the 4 AM shift so I go to bed around 10, get like 4 hours of sleep, wake up and go to work, then take a 2-3 hour nap when I get home from work

I used to work third shift in a grocery store.
We'd lock the doors, put a CD player up to the mic and blast everything from Dead Kennedys to Faith No More to Radiohead all over the store.
Hell...we worked a few times to some bill Hicks/ Jello Biafra spoken word stuff.

I work two jobs, one of which is part time from 3:15 A.M. to about 7:30 A.M. Getting up at 3 ain't easy, even after all this time. Especially if I want to watch RAW/ECW/SMACKDOWN. My fandom often suffers.

Put sheets over your windows to fool yourself into thinking it's nighttime. And don't try to readjust to a normal schedual on your days off. Keep the same sleep schedual all week. Does it suck, yes.

Actually, go to a fabric shop and buy couch fabric. It lets no light shine through, and does not wave around if you have a fan going. I did this, and also slept every moment that I felt like sleeping. Naps are a good thing if you work the nights.

I agree about the window coverings, also stay up for a while after work. No one who works a normal 9-5 comes straight home and goes to bed.

For some reason I think working late nights would be cool, but that might change if I ever do it. Unno just going to work at night would seem cool to me, less customers and stuff. But theres a higher chance of getting robbed and stuff too.
Then theres the thing that like, if you have to go to work at like 8 in the morning, you are like, always gonna have to get woke up, but if you work at night your prolly gonna get to just sleep until you wake up. Atleast I would cause I dont never wake up after like 2 no matter what time I go to sleep...

I used to work the overnight shift at Wal*Mart.
Rules for keeping a sleeping schedule when you work overnight:
1) Never, ever take an energy drink. Ever. One cup of coffee when you wake up, one cup of coffee on your first break. No more after that. Chew gum, a very strong mint or cinnamon flavor can help you stay awake. 2) Read a book for fifteen minutes before laying down to sleep. Any subject will do, it rests your eyes somewhat. 3) Count on six hours of sleep a day. If you can get more, great. If not.... well, just look forward to that coffee. 4) Don't take naps on your lunch break. It will just make it seem longer until you get to go home. 5) Hot shower/bath when you get home. 6) When you get home, do necessary chores immediately (fixing lunches for kids, etc). Other chores can wait until you get up in the afternoon/evening.
There's more, but see how those work out for you first.

Oddly BCup is exactly who I thought of when I read this thread, I was like, hey, she works the night shift, she could probably give the dude some advice.. or make a zombie joke, either/or.
