Or course not, he's one of my all time favourites and you'd break wrestling history, I doubt what would replace it would be better.

Nah. Austin's run was one of the most enjoyable things in wrestling history. If guys freeze up because the crowd is messing with them, it's their problem. The good promo guys have figured out a way around it.

What chants have honestly never bugged me. Feel like they're very easy to avoid so long as you don't just fall into that clunky-ass one-sentence-an-hour cadence.

I don't think I'd do it, if only because A. I don't really notice what chants nearly as much as I used to, and B. making a deal with the devil is one of those things that seems like it's not worth the variables.

I havnt watched WWE in years but are they still a thing the What chants?
Why don't they have a really unlikeable guy, and call him Watt. He could hijack the What chants and make it his thing. Even come out to Stone Cold's theme tune. Have him insert himself to must see dream watches because 'the crowd wants him.' They missing a trick there

Or for a technicality, you can still get Superstar Steve from ECW, a cross between the two.

Considering that Stone Cold Steve Austin kept WWF afloat at a time when Vince had zero other viable options?
I know Bischoff would brag about predicting WWF would go out of business in 1998, but if you remove Stone Cold from the equation, I genuinely don't see how they don't. Shawn and Undertaker weren't going to get people to watch. If Bret stayed, I doubt he would either. Kane, Foley and Rock would likely not see an elevation.
Just about everyone I knew who watched WWF between 1997 and 1999 were there for Stone Cold. Rock would eventually break out as well, but most fans weren't going to just wait around for something to occur.
So this becomes more of a question of would I rather see WCW win the Monday Night Wars?
If that means complacency within the company, then I'd say no. However if WCW actually made the proper changes and didn't have a McMahon type at the top of the company? Then that's a much easier answer.
And this is where I'm going to go back to complacency, because that's where you see a lot of these "What" chants begin in WWE. There's probably more ways around the chant than there are with having it occur. If it's so bothersome to WWE, why don't you start by having wrestlers not cut promos in the middle of the ring? It's overdone, it's boring and 95% of the time it could accomplish the same thing with a video on the tron.
