The fact in ten days time he'll have held the belt longer than anybody else in history is astounding. They need to ensure that whoever holds that belt next also keeps it a while too and has meaningful feuds to not let this go to waste.

616+ Days
I'm not sold at all on Jey being a future IC champion until he makes his motivations clear.
He must say out loud he will never align with the Bloodline again and even try to take out Rock.
Just that chance floating out there in the universe he may go back to the Bloodline again sometime down the road is there.

I say let R Truth win it with help from outside interference. Then we can have Imperium vs DX feud.

February 19th.
Gunther is now equal with Pedro Morales 2 reigns making him equal longest of all time at 619 Days.
Unless he loses the belt today.. Tomorrow that record will exclusively be his.
(My Maths was a bit off earler.)

So yeah.
Gunther has now overtaken Pedro Morales 619 days from 2 reigns.
Meaning he has now held the belt longer than anyone else in both single and multiple reigns.

The way I see it, there are only two routes for Gunther at WrestleMania XL:
- After making Ivar tap out, they continue to heat up Chad Gable and he gets his long-awaited rematch.
- All these promos about wanting to be a champion leads to Sami Zayn laying down a challenge to snap the longest Intercontinental Championship reign in history.

I’m hoping they go the Gable route, I really want him to get a proper singles run not hampered by the Shorty G stuff, plus with Tozawa in Alpha Academy they can keep the tag team going while Gable does his singles stuff.

That’s where I see this heading, one of those two. The third option is Sheamus makes his return to challenge Gunther. Don’t see it happening, but I’d love Gunther-Orton or Gunther-Cena.

It's been a great reign but I'm honestly kinda ready to see it end now.
Time for him to move on to other things.

Question now is does Gunther get to the Berlin show as IC Champ or will he be challenging for a World Title on that show? He would be holding the IC belt for another 6 months by the time of the show.

If I were to guess they're going to do Gunther / Sami at Mania, Gunther wins, and this reign keeps aimlessly dragging on.
I fully expect him to just win the World title in the coming year and vacate the Intercontinental one.

He should be challenging and beating Cody for the World title there. If they want to keep Cody babyface long term he can't hold the title more than a few months in my opinion.

Knowing WWE, they will make it something SUPER COMPLEX where Cody somehow loses it at War Games as he had to defend his belt against 5 guys at once, once WAR GAMES begins!

Man, I wish they hadn't done Jey vs. GUNTHER. That was my WM match, and him facing Jimmy just won't be as good.
Sami would be a solid choice, but not as exciting imo.

But unfortunately the moment Rock arrived and declared "FAMILY" you know Jey would have to be dragged into this mess, so he has no choice but a Jimmy match now, instead of rightfully being the NEW IC at WM!

I think the issue with Jey winning the IC belt before WM would be “What does Gunther do?”. Seth Rollins is off the table unless some silly bastard puts the shot they won in the Chamber on the line. Brock Lesnar is off the table. And if you think other matches like a Sami Zayn are a letdown WITH the belt on the line, it’s not any better without it.

Jey vs GUNTHER at 'mania would have absolutely slapped and would have given Jey the massive win he needs, but instead he's taking on Roman's Bitch. Still, Chad Gable should put on a banger with The Ring General.

Sheamus getting the IC title for the ultimate grand slam.
Cena winning his first IC title.
Gable finally taking down Gunther for the IC title.
Sami getting it done with a big win.
I'm good with any of these scenarios.

It's got to be Gable to beat him. I don't know what we do with Gunther afterwards though until he's ready to take the belt from Cody. So maybe he'll hold it past Mania.
