100% agreed. The Acclaimed were very hot and just lost the titles to The Gunns to get them on FTR. I love FTR but sorry they needed to wait longer, The Acclaimed were hot you run with that. This is where I'm at. Even if The Acclaimed are still very over, them being champions made sense as they were the centerpiece of the division. The belts on FTR doesn't feel as special as they did when they were on The Acclaimed. And it's not just b/c of the Gunns cooling them off either. This entire thing could have been booked way better and arrived at the same conclusion.

I enjoyed the Gunns title reign and it helped estabilish then. But also I wouldnt mind more acclaimed. I really don't see how it established them. They still aren't really over, their matches weren't very good, and it haulted what was basically the hottest face act in the company because Tony couldn't come up with a better natural progression.

On the flipside, the acclaimed are no worse off after dropping them. I guess (whether you like the gunns or not) two young teams have benefited from this current path.
I'm pretty sure TK has some big tag title matches planned for FTR heading into the summer months though.
The real tragedy for me personally are the original AEW teams like best friends and the now disbanded P&P not (yet?) getting a brief run of sorts - I really do miss santana & ortiz.

They get giantic reactions everytime they appear. Matches are subjective, they clearly arent the best in-ring but they didnt have any bad matches. And it hardly halted, it felt like the natural conclusion of their year plus story. But there is no arguing The Acclaimed was the hottest act in the company either, they could have had a year long run.

I think the Gunns had a solid enough transitional reign and I do think if we look we can objectively say that the Ass Boys improved during the short reign. I do think that how the belts transitioned from the Acclaimed to the Gunns could have been handled better.

Acclaimed haven't been halted is the thing though, they are still a constant very over TV presence and the feud with 2.0 has gotten great reception They don't have the belts right now, whether they should have dropped them when they did is a debate, but Acclaimed haven't been hurt at all by it, and the best tag teams ever are multiple time champs because well... they had to lose them that many times too. They'll win them again, and I don't think anything's stopping their act any time soon.

I'm probably a very small minority here. I like the decision. The Gunns were a bit too green for it but it's classic wrestling 101.
Heel tag team screws the beloved tag team out of titles.

Acclaimed are and will still be over, but to me losing the belts felt like they were being cooled off. And now I like 2.0 but that's massive drop off to a comedy feud, make no mistake 2.0 are comedy guys and not much more even if they are awesome.

Their matches do not really get sustained reactions besides Ass Boys chants that they've been getting forever already. I don't think beating The Acclaimed did them any additional reactions. And I thought their matches with FTR and The Acclaimed were the worst either team had in the last many many months. Theyir match with Top Flight was basically Top Flight's least exciting/interesting in about a year. Their dark match was 9 minutes long and felt longer. To me they're basically the Miz of the tag division, which is not in any way a compliment.

Yeah the Acclaimed run was too short. The Gunns things was fine enough, the short run bothered me more. But they're still way over which is the important thing.
Acclaimed/FTR should be a big time match down the road.

I’ve got no problem with it - it was a way of getting the belts onto FTR without them facing the Acclaimed, so it sets up a potentially very hot title match down the track. Plus the Acclaimed are still super over, so it didn’t hurt them that much at all.

I don't mind the Acclaimed losing. But I still think the Gunns were the wrong team to do it.

I get that you can do face/face matches every so often but I'm fine with a heel team as a transition here because you at least get to give someone new a shot. And I think the feeling is the Acclaimed can be important and over without a title program and I don't disagree with that. They don’t seem as over and as important since they lost the titles to the Gunns. Losing to a better team if you had to take the titles off of them may have been more palatable for many.

They don’t seem as over and as important since they lost the titles to the Gunns. Losing to a better team if you had to take the titles off of them may have been more palatable for many. The tag division was in a weird place where the champions had even been the focus of fueds for a few ppvs in a row. That changed when the Acclaimed won. For a long time there also seemed to be a chasm between FTR, Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros and the rest of the tag division. By being the clear focus and beating FTR The Acclaimed were presented as joining the top tier of teams. Losing to one of the "better" teams again would undermine that and give the perception they were only champions because the others weren't competing for the titles. Losing in a screwy way to a team beneath them works better in this instance. Now it's their turn to take back seat but it should be easy to warm them back up into legit contenders when they challenge again. I have some issues with the execution but the idea behind it all are solid and should help ensure they get several good runs as champions rather than just the one.

I am kind of fine with the Ass Boys having beat them since, yes, they were not especially ready to be champions, but character-wise, a couple of squares with firm history with the Acclaimed made a lot of sense to be the ones doing it.
If Billy had turned on the Acclaimed to help them, that would have honestly probably been worse, so they at least got to keep Daddy Ass.

I dont like the idea of giving 2.0 a title shot if the Acclaimed were still the champs, why I would take 2.0 credible when its still fresh in mind that Hook solod them.
The thing with the Gunns winning the tag titles for me was that for some reason it cursed the company because the ratings declined outside of non NBA day and Vikingo hype.

Y'know. Thinking over this today. I came to realize that AEW's tag division has actually gotten really thin on the heel side.
I was trying to think of a team that I would rather have had in the transitional spot, and.........the Gunns stack up better than they should there. The Kingdom are certainly better in the ring, but they are firmly an ROH act and would be even worse than the Gunns from a story and character investment standpoint. Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett could have worked, but I wouldn't have liked that better except by comparison (so, until the Gunns won, I wouldn't have felt able to make that call). Butcher and Blade have a bigger credibility issue (its own problem) than the Gunns. House of Black has been tied up in trios, which is where they belong right now. BCC would have muddled a bunch of things they're doing right now. JAS are better positioned as the Acclaimed's first post-championship feud - I think this story is better for not happening while the Acclaimed were champions (partly because that makes the Acclaimed joining the JAS the biggest prize that the JAS is seeking instead of giving them an ulterior motive in the titles). The Varsity Athletes would very much not have been better than the Gunns, and QT and Aaron Solo would have been substantially worse in my view.
...yeah I'm starting to think the problem is less that the Gunns were undeserving, but that it's not good that the Gunns were the best heel team that was available for a transitional title reign. That actually makes me kind of worry about how FTR's run is about to go.

Ehh we need more short reigns in wrestling nowadays. It seems like majority of title reigns are going a year now.

Ehh we need more short reigns in wrestling nowadays. It seems like majority of title reigns are going a year now. I'm with you completely. At least I've been left wanting to see The Acclaimed win the titles back, which is something so many title reigns nowadays don't do for me because people hold them for so damn long.

Kinda curious if they'll ever start pushing Iron Savages on TV because they'd be a great hoss team obstacle for them The other choice is Luchasaurus and Christian if they decide they're gonna form a team, and maybe if Jay White's bullet club gets big enough This is also why, imo, Jay and Jarrett were in the tag title scene as long as they were, because they were great heel foils, and they needed them at that time. Also push The Outrunners
