Yeah, it was just APA with weed money instead of getting money for booze and poker. I don't even really think of it as THAT rip-offy even if it definitely was intentionally cribbing, since it's such a basic premise and, well, not that far off a wrestler's experience in the midcard in WCW, probably, wrestling and buying some pot to take the edge off the bumps and stressful travel. What made it worse is Kronik was getting over just fine without being APA at home. Stuff like that just really made WCW look desperate and lame. To a degree, but I do get that it's not exactly like they were the kinds of characters that lent themselves to a lot of angles, so this gave them an excuse to interact with other teams more. It did, however, also contribute to the problem of their WWF "run", though, since they came in doing none of that but we were still expected to be stoked, this far removed from their prominence. Really did them no favors even before the bad match, and Undertaker threw them under the bus since we've seen plenty of people shit the bed in a match and not get immediately fired for it. Really comes off like he got embarrassed and took it out on them.

It's funny because there's a match on YouTube from the WWF's developmental system that took place shortly after the Unforgiven match that has Adams (who took the demotion and played ball while Clark refused and quit) teaming with Haku and Kwee Wee against Eddie Guerrero, Lance Cade, and D'Lo Brown in might be the weirdest collection of guys I would have never imagined were all in a match together. It's amazing how much more athletic and skilled Adams looks against Eddie Guerrero then he did Taker and Kane. Taker and Kane were likely equally responsible for the match sucking but there was no way they were going to get punished. I know they had Stevie Richards as their manager and they were supposed to be his revenge against Undertaker since he destroyed the RTC, but they probably should've put Kronik against the Hardyz instead. At least that way they could just have some smaller guys bump around for them while they got eased back in. They hadn't wrestled since WCW closed six months before so they likely were very rusty. Putting two guys who were going to have rust against two other lumbering big guys was a recipe for disaster.

The lame APA rip off bit they didn't need.

I also don't quite understand why they were booked with the only tag team in the WWE that was bigger than them.

Terry Taylor. Ended up a bit of a laughingstock I blame him for the failure just as much as I blame McMahon for giving him that gimmick. He didn't even try to make it work. He should've acted bat poop crazy to really sell it. It might have impressed McMahon.

Like, surely the plan should have been to have them squash some people, THEN you do the monster battle.

Christian York and Joey Matthews in 99-2001
Signed to WCW in 99, released without doing much in April 2000, then try out with WWF and get sent to ECW, sign back with WCW just as it closes, sign to WWF to be sent to Memphis and released by July 2001

I also don't quite understand why they were booked with the only tag team in the WWE that was bigger than them. With working together the popular theory seems to be that Taker wanted to work with Adams who was in the BSK. As for why Kronik got blamed? Basically if anything went wrong in any match involving people from WCW, the WCW guys were blamed. I'm pretty sure Stevie Richards said in one of his shoots that he at the time had insane heat with Taker too and he felt that Taker and Kane sabotaged the match to put heat on Stevie somehow, but since he wasn't in the match and the office wouldn't criticize Taker it all went on Kronik

Matt Cappotelli. Injury after injury culminating in retirement and eventually death due to cancer. Marcus COR Von: he was improving in ring and was due for a push before his sister died and he had to leave wrestling to take care of her kids. Its always going to upset me that Monty/Marcus wasn't a bigger success in wrestling. He at the very least should have won the NWA title in TNA at some point, its stupid TNA never strapped him up.
