I love this era of Fran Drescher's life The Nanny being one of the people responsible for the influx of interest in labor worker rights in the United States wasn’t even on my 21st Century bingo card, never mind my 2023 one.

Numerous films are resuming production very soon, including Deadpool 3, Venom 3, Gladiator 2, Beetlejuice 2, the "Wicked" movie starring Ariana Grande, The Minecraft Movie, and presumably many more. Beyond the Spider-Verse will start VO again soon, too. I'm really curious to see how the folks on Spider Verse are treated after that article describing the terrible work conditions came out

The studios didn't wanna do the right thing and let so many months of box office since the actors couldn't promote them. Bog Iger, David Zaslav, and the rest of the execs are some big ole dummies

I'm really curious to see how the folks on Spider Verse are treated after that article describing the terrible work conditions came out I guess we can find out next year when TAG’s contract is up… The cgi creators need to get a good union as well now. They are so systematically ran through the mud and when it comes to films like the Spiderverse they are churning out cultural art that will last forever. Yet none of them ever have a good story about working for studios, and ridiculous amount of overtime.

They are so systematically ran through the mud and when it comes to films like the Spiderverse they are churning out cultural art that will last forever. Yet none of them ever have a good story about working for studios, and ridiculous amount of overtime. It’s less that they don’t have a union, it’s more that the union hasn’t been as strong as it could be, especially considering there are a lot of studios with memberships. Like, if anything, all these stories and hopefully with the backing of other unions, 2024 would be the chance to remedy all of that or begin to make big strides.

Apparently the studios lost about $3 billion total from this strike. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Sadly, a lot of people in positions of power like that are much more invested in wielding power over the people under them than they are in doing what would actually be cost efficient, practical, and profitable.

Corporate culture regards any union power as a threat. They are willing to take financial hits as a result. The CEO's know that they can move onto the next big job.

I love Across the Spider-Verse but holy shit do not make a movie like it again. Spontaneity is not generally a thing in animation for a reason, and the idea of doing multiple cuts of the movie for different theaters is just unfathomably stupid.

Waiting for SAG-AFTRA confirmation but if the trades are correct the deal got approved by 86% by the national board which means it’ll go to the membership to get what would be the final stamp.

So, about what's in that SAG-AFTRA deal. I don't know what this person means by "nobody is talking about it" when it's dominated most of my feed this week. The reason I didn't put anything up was because there was too much to go through and it's hard to know whose overreacting and whose being concise with it. EDIT: And to note, if the terms are bad, it should be voted down and they should go back to the table. But with all things to do with social media sometimes, things are so blurry, it's hard to tell but....yeah.

Or spreading outright misinformation. Especially on social media. Especially especially on Twitter.

Yeah, looking at some of the quotes from Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA didn't get everything and it seems AI is the sticking point. For example: Plus: It's going to be hard for actors to decide if the AI clauses in the contract is enough though as they're probably not going to get to see the whole deal before they vote, just a summary of it.

I will first say that, if they did get everything then they honestly would not have asked for enough so I absolutely get that logic since, at the end of the day, it's a negotiation.
BUT
Saying some of the stuff Fran has hasn't helped things and along with that, if people aren't able to see the full wording or attend meetings whilst also being at work, it does feel like they aren't going to get the full picture before voting and that is where it can't go wrong.
