The cgi creators need to get a good union as well now. They are so systematically ran through the mud and when it comes to films like the Spiderverse they are churning out cultural art that will last forever. Yet none of them ever have a good story about working for studios, and ridiculous amount of overtime. It’s less that they don’t have a union, it’s more that the union hasn’t been as strong as it could be, especially considering there are a lot of studios with memberships. Like, if anything, all these stories and hopefully with the backing of other unions, 2024 would be the chance to remedy all of that or begin to make big strides. looks like WB is feeling pressure after the backlash of trying to shelf the Coyte movie and are trying to sell it now. Maybe the public image has effected the studios.

This is an awesome thing to say after half a year of strikes where people in the AMPTP were saying the goal was to make writers bankrupt and homeless when you could have solved this without a strike at all. F*** off, man.

Might come back to bite the guy to the shareholders if those talent meetings being cancelled were true because that's the thing that did in Bob Chapek.

Also, people just won't inclucde WB when shopping projects around now. It does seem possible that the backlash has created some kind of effect on them.

F*** off, man. I don't want to come off like I'm defending Zaslav because I think he's a shithead, but from what was coming out, all the traditional studios were pretty ready to make a deal from the getgo and it was the streamers like Netflix holding things up. But they also had to show a united front instead of throwing Netflix under the bus.
Though that's just on pay. Not sure where all of them stood on AI.

I do not disagree with Modine, but it's also worth noting he has run for SAG president multiple times, and lost to current president Fran Drescher in the last election. It's enough to make me wonder if he's also got ulterior motives for calling this into question, in addition to his valid concerns.

Modine isn't the first one to point out that the AI protections are vague and could be loopholed around by the studios. But I wouldn't be surprised if he was motivated by an agenda, either.

Which is fine, honestly, people rarely do something for one singular reason. Still, it's worth acknowledging so it's not treated as some sort of "gotcha".

A turnout of 38% is pretty piss poor for such an important issue. 99,000 out of 160,000 members simply couldn't be bothered to vote.

A lot of SAG members are also not exactly working actors but still have active membership for whatever reason, so it's more than it sounds. The SAG elections had a similar turnout.
Not sure what the turnout was for the WGA vote on their new deal, but I think it was a bit more decisive a majority.

And according to the new agreement residuals aren't considered earnings for seniors, as Ellen Burstyn just found out as she reported she got kicked off her SAG/AFTRA insurance.
Fran Drescher bent the Guild over so badly that she looks as just a big an asshole as the studios she's supposed to be dealing with.

As long as everything is being done with the consent of the actors in question.
