Chapek didn’t go because of that, especially because this was the same company that had Jeffrey Katzenburg run the department for so long. Chapek went because his first order of business was to throw one of the stars still willing to work with them under the bus and pissing off one of their bigger “whales” in theme park attendees by messing with how passes worked. And it wasn’t even that he went, Bob Iger (the guy who vouched for him for so long) just saw the situation, went “Well, that was a mistake” and took his spot back. Well then the timing was funny given he got ousted like... two days later lol Yeah I'd say you are spot on. I don't have numbers but I think we can all agree that based upon our shared experiences Disney adults have to be a pretty significant portion of their business. Whether parks, movies, streaming, merch, whatever. I know many childfree folks that spend big on Disney, heck I know two moms that go to Disney parks without their children from time to time. So I can imagine extrapolating that out and Disney not wanting to piss those folks off or have their CEO basically tell them they are "lesser".

I only say it doesn’t link because, frankly, Disney itself seems to treat animation like a lesser thing and have done for years so it was more Chapek saying the quiet part loud if anything.

Really we are all wrong and the real answer is homie got fired is because the board found someone willing to take it that they could all agree upon and whose choice would be easily defensible PR wise lol.

I don't know anything about Zaslav, but if he's the reason Inside the NBA no longer exists, then he's dead to me. Seriously, it hurts me picturing that show no longer being around. Instead we get more ESPN and probably enough John Tesh to make everyone sick for that song eventually.
It would definitely help AEW on their next media rights deal, one would think, and probably NHL and MLB as well.

This is gonna be interesting.
While it frees up money that could be used for AEW, it's also a lot of advertiser money that Warner loses thanks to not having the NBA and Zaslav would do anything to save a nickel. And how much of a play will they make for UFC or WNBA to replace the NBA?
Can we please get AEW on Max?

Hopefully this is the end of Zaslav but I'm guessing the shareholders will just keep letting him f*** everything up for no reason.

I can't wait for the NBA pregame crew to call AEW shows.

I think they'd be morons not to give AEW a chunky fresh tv contract. It's just when Zaslav is involved, he may just be that moron.

If that even gets off the ground with Turner losing the NBA. Tony might need to rethink his deal about not running against the NFL because their new contact might be changing that with the loss of the NBA. I really think tnt will push to move Collision to Monday to grab the lost Raw audience and try and up their overall numbers.

Warner still has baseball, college basketball, and hockey so they'd still probably be a part of that combined streamer. Just the only NBA content on that service would be from Disney.
And I still think moving any AEW show to Mondays is a big mistake and a gross underestimation of Netflix's reach. Especially in the target demo.

Not sure if WBD losing the NBA is gonna be a “Well, we lost basically the hottest television product we had that was as valuable as an entire nations net worth so let’s just use that money on AEW” type deal.

Collision to Thursday is now an option with Warner losing the NBA. It's a lot better option for AEW than their Saturday time slot.

I think we'll actually see that, with the only competition being TNA (Which... well it isn't competition in the state it's in to view right now) I could see Collision moving there, Rampage too if they want to keep going with this three hour block thing... The only downside I could see being some wrestlers working both shows and the turnover being a pain given it's less then 24 hour travel and such. But they have such a big roster that most shows won't have a ton of people wrestling on both, appearing would be less of a strain.

Yeah, there's Thursday night NFL games, but they're on Amazon and are typically the worst games and least viewed of the slate of the weekly games. So I think they can manage that a lot better than against MNF or the big college primetime games if they had to pick their poison.

I don't think I've watched a Thursday Night Foot ball game that had energy, everytime I watch it the games feel lifeless and boring
