Zaslav is really bad at his job so losing the NBA wouldn’t surprise me. Punk name dropping him must be one of the all-time bad promo lines and it keeps getting worse retrospectively. There is nothing more punk than bragging that the head of a large media corporation that is bleeding money and shelves completed projects for tax breaks is a fan of yours.

I really wonder what FOX and Disney think about all this NBA stuff. WBD is creating a sports streaming service with those two companies. I can't imagine that those partners will be happy to lose NBA games to NBC/Peacock.

Charles Barkley said he expects a decision from WBD today on whether they'll match the NBC offer.

Charles Barkley said he expects a decision from WBD today on whether they'll match the NBC offer. And this is for the new "smaller" package of games isn't it? Either way, I think this confirms AEW will remain on WBD (not that I ever really thought they wouldn't regardless) if they want to, right?

Tony must be praying that Warner don't spend big on the NBA, because if they do, I think he could start looking at other networks to get the money he wants.

Most people say it’s hard to predict which way things go. It could be that if WBD retains the NBA at a high number, they know they’ll be making a lot in carriage fees and advertising because of it and will be more apt to pay up for AEW. It could be if they don’t get the NBA, they are worried about their carriage and advertising numbers coming in and are more hesitant to spend up on AEW. Really no way to know.

Yeah, by all accounts, AEW's deal is all but wrapped, they just need to figure out the spending of stuff. And with how the NBA has been performing, there's no reason to think they can't try to have their cake and eat it with their rights deal. But again, they could try and cut back and rebrand and we'd be in a different spot come October (or whenever the exclusivity window shuts, something we also really don't know about). And even so, zero chance they're going to just be outbid on AEW. As a disaster it would be to lose the NBA, it wouldn't be a great look to basically go "Yeah, you know how we've basically dominated Wednesdays for the past 5 years? Enough of that" for no real benefit.

Charles Barkley said he expects a decision from WBD today on whether they'll match the NBC offer. To add to this, Ernie Johnson at the very least won't leave Turner if the NBA does leave. Which makes sense because he still does various other bits of coverage around Turner Sports and there's not really a benefit for an NBA or a ESPN to try and get him for what would be a real short term deal. This whole thing is just surreal. We could really be seeing a lot of what WBD's been trying to do with these cuts and tax breaks and harming their overall reputation for short term gains go up in smoke if they can't keep the thing that's kept them going.

Ernie Johnson does a ton with their NCAA basketball coverage. Splitting up the Inside the NBA crew would suck though.

Zaslav f***ed everything up and drove WBD even further into the ground? Better give him another bonus.

David Zaslav and Dixie Carter might be related somehow and I wouldn't even be surprised
We'll know if we ever see Zaslav say "Quit Hatin'"

I’ll be frank, if Zaslav loses the NBA, the vote of no confidence would come so swiftly and quickly, Michael Eisner would get whiplash from 2004.

He sank TCM, sank DC in general for both movies and games, sank a bunch of shows and movies, is sinking MAX, and might sink NBA.
Not only do I expect Zaslav gone real soon (with a parachute), but how the hell can Tony trust an exec like this? I would ask for all the money upfront.

It's always amazing to me how a dude can be terrible at his job and make 50 million dollars a year doing it. If the NBA leaves does this mean the NBA Crew will be part of the AEW coverage?

I think we might know more about the future of AEW and WBD next week as WBD does their upfronts on the 15th.
If featured/mentioned I’d say it’s a good sign

Don't forget basically putting a bullet in Cartoon Network and burying the vast majority of its history in the process then turning around to wonder publicly why they're struggling to get kids interested in their brands.

It'd be sad that THAT would be what it takes to get him the f*** out of here, like Chapek saying Disney Animation was for children in a public statement... the very thing Disney was build on, just for young kids and Adults would rather view something else... yeah that went over well lmfao

Chapek went because his first order of business was to throw one of the stars still willing to work with them under the bus and pissing off one of their bigger “whales” in theme park attendees by messing with how passes worked. And it wasn’t even that he went, Bob Iger (the guy who vouched for him for so long) just saw the situation, went “Well, that was a mistake” and took his spot back.
