Can't believe Avalanche didn't make it big, he had everything: looks, body, charisma, mic skills...

The thread title sounds like a children’s pop up book. "There was once a jobber who didn't want to job. One day, he was booked to wrestle Dan Spivey and "Sycho" Sid. The jobber decided he wasn't going to job. He stood in the ring and no-sold punch after punch, kick after kick. Dan and Sid were starting to get mad. But that jobber just wouldn't job. So Dan and Sid delivered their best moves. A double powerbomb could do in even the toughest of tag teams. But this jobber wasn't going to job. So Dan decided he wasn't going to work. He was going to shoot (brother). Dan hit the jobber so hard, a tooth flew out. He slammed him almost through the ring. And the jobber who wouldn't job Became a cautionary tale of why you always do your job. Because when you refuse to work You just might work yourself into a shoot. (Brother) The End"

It's said in the video linked in the OP, but how clueless and/or lazy was WCW back then for even letting this air? Had this happened in the WWF, no one would have ever seen it and would've been an internet rumor for years. Sometimes WWE's revisionist narrative of WCW being terrible is total bullshit, but then you get occasions like this where WCW proved that sometimes they were that terrible.

"And so I got a little rough with him" "It got worse for the guy when he got backstage" lol Spivey is legit the scariest looking guy While he looks scary (especially the crazy eyes) his demeanor makes him even more scary. Pleasant and calm but at the same time he gives off a vibe where you know if you crossed him he could be terrifying. And going by his run ins with Adrian Adonis, the Road Warriors, and the dumb job guy in the clip that seems to be very much the case. In other words Waylon Mercy was the perfect gimmick for him in that he WAS Waylon Mercy.

While on the topic of WCW shoot jobber beatings:

While on the topic of WCW shoot jobber beatings: Large Convict jobber on work release decides to test IRS and quickly regrets it. It started out fine, the way it should be given Death Row's size. But then in the corner he went too far with trying to look good. I love seeing these kinds of shoots where an amateur wrestler mainly controls his opponent to make a statement. It hurts, but it isn't brutal (minus the punch to the head).

So the OG jobber didn't want to job and look bad from his friend and family or whatever. To end up making a total ass himself and look worse than he would have if he did the job. Bold strategy cotton, we saw how that worked out for him.

The WWE aired Perry Saturn beating the crap out of Mike Bell and that brutal match where the Acolytes smacked the sh*t out of Public Enemy in a way designed to injure them, so it's not just a WCW being unprofessional thing, it's all carny.

I immediately knew who this thread would be about from the title. It was a dumb move, but I do feel a bit bad for him, but I get it as they had to make sure he stayed down, because it was making everyone look bad. Wonder if he made any more appearances after that?

Perry Saturn also beat the shit out of another jobber who wanted to look good in his hometown and in front of his friends/family. So he got Perry Saturn pissed off and he took it too him live on screen. Commentary just went with it and Tazz was happy that this jobber was getting his shit kicked in and then Saturn put on a different version of the Rings of Saturn and had the guy not tapped out he would have had his arm pretty much destroyed. Here is the link to the match: Metal: Perry Saturn vs Brian Gamble

Maybe this is a famous story, but I had never heard of the jobber who no-sold The Skyscrapers: Supposedly, this was the dude's hometown and he didn't want to look bad. Now I am completely fascinated as I would think Spivey (maybe Sid as well) would have punched his head into orbit when they got back to the locker room. I think Jim Cornette and others have spoken on this. The way wrestling training USED to work, is they did not smarten you up until just before you had your first match. This guy was never "smartened up" and was never taught to sell or anything. I mean, he's still a grown man in the cartoony Hulkamania era of wrestling and SHOULD know wrestling is a work.

A legit angry Teddy Long yelling kick his ass makes the beatdown in the end even better.
But really what did that moron seriously think was going to happen to him.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that pissing off two gigantic men who are much bigger than you isn't a good idea and is not going to end well.
