Not a big fan of Nunez. Can't deny her talent. Also can't deny her ability to screw around with the scheduling for any fight she thought might be even close to competitive. I was one of the few people who expected her to beat Cyborg, and my reason from day one was "because if Nunes wasn't pretty much 100% confident of her ability to win, the match wouldn't happen." And I still think Schevchenko beat her in that 2nd fight. I've heard a lot of people claim that Nunes is actually very funny and likeable off-camera, and now that WWE and UFC share ownership there might be a pipeline in that way. But on the flip side WWE's invested enough into Ronda that I can see them giving her an unconditional veto on whether Nunes can get into WWE, and I see Ronda exercising it. There might be some interest in AEW (they did have her in the audience once), but AEW's never really figured out how to run their women's division so it's not exactly a great alternative. I never bought into her personally. Overrated in my eyes. Cyborg & Schevchenko were robbed. The same Cyborg KO'd in a min, sure

Ronda/Shayna is the right to hold the titles for a while, while they build up the other women around them in regards to tag division. This can also work to building up Shayna as a potential singles star since that would be Ronda goal more than anything to have a feud with her friend to help her Unifying the NXT tag titles too is a smart move. That division doesn't need it and you can go back to original idea if anything of those tag titles being defended across the 3 brands It makes sense, though part of me laments that it lowers the chances of a lot of the women in the company getting to do much. There are tons of people who are never going to get a sniff at these tag belts, being realistic, much less the NXT, Raw, or Smackdown Women's titles, but I get that the "tag division" is non-existent right now. If we still had people like Fire and Desire around, it'd be one thing, but this at least maybe gives WWE some impetus to try to form some actual teams, and Ronda/Shayna have the credibility to hold down the fort in the mean time. That is more so the intention than anything to build up the division over next 6 months or so while Ronda/Shayna hold down the fort. Ideally, be a number of fixes I would make like Raquel joining Bayley and letting Iyo do her own thing. Probably going to see a lot more moving around over next couple months as they try to get some new people over (Stark being involved in the Trish/Becky feud for example)

I get that not everyone's going to like Amanda, but I can't help but remember someone crying foul that Royce Gracie was robbed at UFC 60 when Matt Hughes beat him by TKO. "They stopped the fight too early!" You know, when Matt had him mounted from behind and was raining punches down on his head, in full control of him. Sometimes, fighters people have issues with beat popular fighters, dead to rights.

Nunes destroyed basically all of the top WMMA fighters, and her one recent loss she avenged in decisive fashion.
Greatest WMMA fight ever easily. And one of the greatest MMA fighters period as well.
She seems like she enjoys being with her family and she and her wife are expecting another child. Let her retire and enjoy life now.

I seen to remember the scuttlebutt online being that it was an early stoppage. Early? Ok okay. You win. It's been awhile since id seen the fight. I just remember several circles of the MMA community that I were a part of saying it was an early stoppage. I'm still not a fan.

It's not wrestling, it is really hard to be like "I don't buy into this fighter" when there is actual footage of them KOing fools left and right or choking them out for real.

The real offset to anyone not 'buying into' Amanda Nunes is to look at the fights she has where her opponent seems terrified of actually going in on her. They're buying into her real hard and I'd take their judgment of that situation with a lot more weight, personally.

That isn't to say that real fighters, even hugely successful ones, can't be criticized. Like, Floyd Mayweather, for instance was implicated for doping for his fight with Pacquio. Pac's a piece of shit, but that Floyd got retroactive permission for that, only applied for after the fight, is complete bullshit and kind of casts a pall over his career with, obviously he was very gifted and dominant, but if he cheated here, who knows how many other times this may have happened? Especially since the doping can mask further abuse of the rules.

To put in perspective how insane Nunez striking is. Cat Zingano beat her, and said this about the fight
"That whole first round, I just got my head caved in, I was dizzy; I couldn't be in light for a month. I put on like 30 pounds because my pituitary gland got knocked around and my hormones were all screwed up. I had never been hit like that in a fight. You know, it really freaked me out because it was like, man, I am my son's only parent. If I'm all screwed up and I can't drive and I can't work and say this injury is so bad I can't fight anymore...what if I'm incapable of doing that? I can't get to the point where my brain is mush and I can barely talk, because my son's life depends on my health."

Man I don't even think Mike Tyson's punches gave people that much of an existential crisis after the bell, that's insane.

That was an egregious fight, but only because no one is currently on her level. It was like watching a person beat up a mannequin. So it makes sense. Why run your body into the ground training for a fight you could win in your sleep? Retire, live it up. Though as with EVERY fighter retirement, is it really over? For her it is probably 60/40 she stays retired My assumption is Pena gets first crack at the title and assuming she wins, she will call out Nunez for the 3rd fight since she was injured for this Pena is going to hammer her in the press until she comes back and fight her. I see why she is doing it. I follow her and Nina on IG. That little girl of theirs is such a huge part of their lives and with another one on the way, I think they are ready to just chill and be a family.

She's going to go to WWE isn't she? Not with Ronda still with WWE. I can absoloutley see AEW gunning for her though to basically tout having the REAL/actual baddest woman on the planet. You KNOW thats happening, rousey vs nunes in saudi arabia, with rousey getting "Revenge" like brock did vs cain

Peña is going to have to win the title to really put the pressure on Amanda otherwise she is staying retired. She has fought less since she started a family and with another addition you got to make it worth it unless she really misses it

Amanda’s strikes are even more impressive. Holly Holm is a hall of fame former boxer, yet Nunes battered her with ease.

The only thing I didn't like about Nunes announcing her retirement was her saying something to the effect of "all other champions that come after me aren't real". If the douchebags in the press want to say that, ok... but the fighter burying everyone else? I thought that was kind of dick move. It's one thing if she were being forced out without losing the title. You're retiring on top... nothing wrong with that at all. However, the game goes on. The next champ isn't a "paper champ" if you made the choice to retire. Be more humble.
