Lots of good choices here, but I'll go with "When She Loved Me" by Randy Newman and Sarah McLachlan from Toy Story 2.

“Shine on You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd. The bookend tracks of “Wish You Were Here”... The closing track especially... It's obvious the band felt bad after what happened to Syd Barret and they really missed their former frontman, and probably felt guilty the band got enormously popular after he left.
Like Brain Damage on the Dark Side of the Moon... SOYCD is about Syd. And for some reason, it really hits me when the final bit wraps up and you can faintly hear the opening of the Floyd song “See Emily Play” a song Barrett wrote back when the band was breaking out.

One of many, but since I'm thinking of Chester Bennington this morning, I'll say Over Again by Mike Shinoda (his bandmate and creator of Linkin Park)

Realistically, it'd probably just be a song from any given album that is tied up in one of my past relationships, but that'd be so personal it wouldn't affect anyone besides me.
I think one song that exists at a good crossroads between that and genuinely sad as f*** is this one, though:

Sandra by Dusty Springfield is a big one. Then when you take into account what she was going through...
Goin' Back but only because it reminds me of Dusty's funeral.

That song Taylor Swift wrote using a mother’s blog about losing her son to cancer. It’s brutal and beautiful.

I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry—Hank Williams Sr.
Brutally simple with that existential sadness that we all experience at one point or another. Nothing ornate about it just pure melancholy.

Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hotel California by The Eagles. Favorite songs of my dad. I hear either of them and I'm done for awhile.
Nickelback's Side of Bullet about Dimebag's murder. I heard it live at a concert shortly after they released it, highly emotional song.

Once I dreamed Love would come and sweep me up away Now it seems Life's passed me by I'm still alone today Here come the tears Looks like It'll always be the same Noone here to comfort me Here come the tears All alone Noone cares So much to give To you all out there Take me now In your arms Let me rest Safe from harm Oohhhh! I want to be loved! I need to be loved! Won't somebody love me? Here they come Here come the tears Here come the tears
