If there is only one thing I've learned about ratings from these threads, is that there are way too many variables involved to say that a rise or a fall is down to one single thing.

And if there's anything I've learned from these threads it's that... some people are still gonna think it falls down to one single thing lol

So Vaderpump ends and the number has a big jump huh? After all that grief some posters gave about "STOP TALKING ABOUT VADERPUMP IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING"... welp, lol. I said it before, but AEW's best ratings are in the summer. No NBA, no major competition screwing with their airtimes... and it helps the product's heating up imo and has a lot of fun stuff going on. I hope they keep this up and get a lot of buzz off of Forbidden Door as well. This is definitely a promising number. The viewership and rating are identical to two weeks ago when they were head to head with the Vanderpump reunion finale and the NBA Finals. Whatever, it's over and their numbers are up, I'll take it no matter what impact it had, AEW's in a much better position for the summer.

I guess announcing punk for the show helped some. People seem to be interested to hear what he has to say or waiting for him to go completely insane again, lol.

If you had told me back in 2019 when AEW was first starting that, 4 years later, Billy Gunn and Jeff Jarrett would be two of my absolute favorite guys on the roster, I would have called you a lunatic.
But here we are. AEW has its issues, but it is the best wrestling company there’s ever been at using veterans well and playing to their strengths.

Damn, look at that huge decline after the Cole/MJF segment ended, its more than clear viewers hate technical wrestling, show couldve gotten a much bigger rating.
I do think they could have spaced the show out better/differently. Maybe have the Mox/Eddie drama earlier on, but shit, look at that rating. What do I know.

What seems like a thriving number, I can see for only the shameful last twitches of something withering away, like a doomed houseplant shaking its weak and sickly leaves under a breeze while the weight of mistakes and neglect slowly saps away what little life is still left in it. There will be no renewal for AEW, no bloom, no green returning to these tired limbs and rotting leaves. Water it all that you want, fools, but AEW's death is inevitable, and from its roots it will sap every last shred of life from this soil. It only with callousness that this promotion continues to 'live', day by day.
(I had a whole thing pre-written about AEW being swallowed by the sea from before the whole Situation broke but now it'd be in poor taste so you get half-asleep ficus shaming instead)

I thought the Cassidy & Shibata vs. Garcia & Sabre match was fine but it's not hard for me to see why it wouldn't have held the attention of 'the casual viewer'. Not only was it the third tag-based match of the night, it also went the longest and had the least amount of star power in it. This kind falls under AEW fault. I mean have they really told the story or what makes the NJPW talent special? I mean the diehard wrestling will know who they are. But those who don't have access to NJPW, you think AEW has done a great job telling us who Shibata or Sabre is to those fans?

Shibata has appeared multiple times now on AEW television, and they literally told the story of his brain injury as he made his appearance. Sabre has also appeared before as they've made him feel like a big deal and one of the biggest technical wrestlers in the world The NJPW Talent have always been propped up as a big deal to fans when they show up, they did so at Forbidden Door I and are continuing so here imo I would give Rampage a look as well to see DOUKI in action, he's well worth your time.

I think the NJPW guys have been promoted fine, but the buys for Forbidden Door will be the proof in the pudding either way. If that PPV does a big number then they've done their job.

Last year the buys for Forbidden Door were very good for what was originally seen as a niche event at best and in spite of a lot of high profile absences due to injuries to big names like Omega, Punk, and Danielson. And then you had a lot of positive word of mouth coming out of it, too. If anything it should do even better this year even if the AEW product itself isn't as hot as it was last year.
Hell, Danielson vs Okada alone is a bigger "big fight" than anything on the card last year.

The most shocking thing for me is how that many people actually watch the college World Series.
