I first became acquainted with The Room through the first year it aired as Adult Swim's April Fools prank, IMO the only good thing Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim did for the network. I'd forgotten it was April 1st, I don't remember what I was expecting to watch, but I know it was certainly not that. At first, I reacted much like I did when I first saw Evil Dead 2: "Am I s'posed to laugh at this?" By the repeat showing, I was laughing way too hard. The next year, I started introducing friends to the absurdity.

I love this terrible movie.

Surprisingly, this isn't the movie I catch crap for loving/owning. That would be Rubber.

For all of his... many, many faults as a person and boss, I am glad that Tommy Wisseu's weird-ass "friendship" with Greg Cestero eventually paid off for the latter.

Tommy Wiseau is such a fascinating character. He seems to have a ton of money from who knows what, has a ton of quirks that hint at an even weirder past that he seemingly doesn't like to get into and what little he has revealed about his past, it's pretty much impossible to confirm (and if Sester is to be believed, is in fact untrue).

It's entirely speculation but I genuinely wonder if he's a former mobster who got on someone's bad side or something. Certainly would explain his inexplicable wealth, his weird quirks and his less than forward attitude about his personal history. Hell, apparently several people who worked on The Room believe it was a part of a money-laundering scheme (again, I hasten to say that there is no evidence of such).

I was very late to the party on this film but man I still remember the first time I saw it and who with (6 years ago I think). I was due to hang out with a friend on my day off work but considered cancelling because I was feeling pretty down. Anyway I decided to just go with it and we just had a day watching bad movies (this was the first time I’d seen Troll 2 as well). Me and my friend were confused by all the sex scenes in the first 20 minutes but loved the film and now it’s one of our favourites.

We even went to see a screening of it at Princes Charles Cinema in London a few months after and met Tommy & Greg. One of the best cinema experiences I've had just an absolute blast the rest of the audience made it such a fun watch.
