Speaking of "dangerous" animals, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were demonized when I was a kid in the 80s/90s, which is unfortunate as they are perfectly fine dogs. It's the people who raise them as guard dogs, or worse, fighting dogs that are the real problem. Go on Reddit and you'll still see plenty of this, usually alongside a good amount of (forgive the pun) racist dog whistles.

I still can't believe that your Physical Education grade would get docked if you didn't strip naked and take a shower in front of half your classmates and often a fully clothed teacher whose job it was to make sure you showered after class. Like what in the actual f!#$ was the concern? Seriously here. Was it really concerning that a teen might smell not 100% shower fresh at 2pm for the last hour of school? In retrospect it sounds like a job some pedo bullshitted their way into existence. I'm a grown ass man that's many decades removed from this situation... please for the love of god tell me they still don't do this at school. Showers were optional for gym class at my school. Me too. Of course my school actually had at least one diddler gym teacher so they weren't about to go encouraging it.

JR High and High school the water to the gym showers was shut off. Except after home basketball and football games. So even if you wanted to shower after PE you couldn't. Another dumb dress code rule I was reminded of earlier. Senior year it became a fad to wear a shirt stating what part of Moss Point you were from,West side/east side/north side/south side. The new VP swore this was gang related, this one was even more conviced the school had a gang problem than the last one. So week or so after these shirts started appearing VP gets on the intercom "I know what all these North Side,South, west, east side shirts are about they are banned. Get caught wearing one and it is 3 days at home 5 days ISS and 8 points." So that afternoon we went to a store bought a pack of 10 xl white t shirts and a pack of sharpies. Next day my shirt said IN Side on it, a buddy had OUT side on his,OFf Side,Central Side and other stuff. Got us all called to the office and a new announcement about how "Shirts with writing made in marker are banned" made.

Roseanne purposely butchering the National Anthem was proof that both Hollywood and "young people" hated the country or something.
Season one of The Simpsons was extremely controversial - first with right-wing groups, then society ate large. "Do you see the way that boy talks to his father? My kids would never do that."
"Baby Got Back" freaked white people the hell out. "Look at the way he talks about women," they yelled, ignoring the fact that a song with the exact same subject matter was a top 40 hit the previous decade. ("Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk" by Dr. Hook.) But the good doctor and the boys were white boomers, so...
Billy Ripken's infamous 1989 baseball card was going to bring about the end of decency, manners and Western Civilization.

Playing records backwards and hearing satanic messages.
Literally one of the most ridiculous 'satanic panics' of them all.
What moron would even play a record backwards to begin with? And if you wanted to brainwash people into loving Satan, why use such an obscure method?

Stuff like this is why I roll my eyes when people say "people had thicker skins back then".

And As Judas Priest pointed out, if they could put messages like that in there, the first one would be to buy more records.

Kind of morbid, but stranger danger was a big thing in the 80's and 90's. As a kid, I was almost conditioned to be flightish if ever around someone who looked sketchy.

I loved the satanic panic over Magic the Gathering and Pokemon. I was in 3rd grade when Mazes and Monsters aired. Next week at school my Math teacher saw my D&D book sticking out of my book bag. Got sent to the office and made to call my mother. Where this teacher explained to her how "evil and Satanic D&D" was. Ok for another thing that people worried about when I was a kid and now I never hear it mentioned. Long distance calling.... I can remember as a kid and even in my teens and early adult years if I called my grandparents I had to make it a quick call cause they lived a county over and it was long distance. Now with cells nothing is long distance. My high school English teacher was a giant nerd and he'd always joke with us when we played Magic at lunch. Called it the Devil's Game. He'd actually play with us sometimes. He also had an in-classroom library with a lot of Fantasy and Sci-fi books. Read some good stuff in there like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I live in an area of the country that is pretty close to the New Madrid fault. Back in 1990 this guy named Iben Browning predicted that there would be a major earthquake along the fault in early December 1990. Needless to say it never happened, but people in the region were still scared as all hell that this quake would occur, and the entire year was caught up in earthquake hysteria.

Spliffy jeans meant you'd be a drug addict
A shaved head would make you a racist and you'd be suspended
Sniffing glue could kill you
There's some logic and even sense behind all of them but as a naïve 8 year old I couldn't work out how clothes, haircuts and prittsticks could harm anyone. There was never enough context so it was arbitrary.
Kids have better drugs accessible these days because it's been a long time since I heard anything about solvent abuse.

Back on topic, I remember ticks and Lyme Disease being a big topic of discussion when I was a kid. My Mother was constantly worried about it to the point where she had me scared to death to even go outside in case I suddenly dropped dead from a random bug bite. Nowadays people seem to be a big more passive about the subject. Or maybe my Mom was just a crackpot. Or probably both. Here. The topic of ticks and Lyme is more prevalent than I've seen it in the past. We've had a massive growth in tick population in the last few years. But then again, I'm a Dog Groomer so it comes up in conversation alot.

Sounds like my Chem II teacher. Huge comic guy, played video games and I bet would have played magic(but magic started a year or so after I graduated.) When Mr redacted learned i worked part time at a comic shop and got stuff at a big discount I started getting extra credit for getting him his comics at a discount. Raised that solid 72,which was a D back then,to a respectable 80 which was a C.
