Back on topic, I remember ticks and Lyme Disease being a big topic of discussion when I was a kid. My Mother was constantly worried about it to the point where she had me scared to death to even go outside in case I suddenly dropped dead from a random bug bite. Nowadays people seem to be a big more passive about the subject. Or maybe my Mom was just a crackpot. Or probably both. Here. The topic of ticks and Lyme is more prevalent than I've seen it in the past. We've had a massive growth in tick population in the last few years. But then again, I'm a Dog Groomer so it comes up in conversation alot. There is a tick now where the bite makes you allergic to eating meat! You would think that would be enough to get this fatass country worried.

Acid rain was something people were concerned about in my youth. To the point that my mom said it killed the car. That might have been code for them taking the cat to the “farm”. I was like 5, so I didn’t question things

IF YOU DO THAT WITH YOUR FACE IT WILL STAY THAT WAY
I was terrified of ending up cross-eyed after my grandma told me that

Thankfully, no reports here yet, plus I'm vegetarian anyway.

I mean Elvis would probably be dead by now anyway. Like Blackout mentioned the internet allows all kinds of research. You can look at the Bermuda Triangle numbers and see the amount of strange incidents are normal for such a heavily trafficked area. Yet with this wealth of knowledge we have more willful ignorance than ever before. Flat Earth anyone? No questions (with extra Q) about that. Is "chocolate causes hyperactivity" still a thing?

Satanic lyrics when heavy metal records were played backwards. And all this time we missed the real threat: Popeye promoting promiscuity: EDIT: THIS clip with the snooty professor...

Roseanne purposely butchering the National Anthem was proof that both Hollywood and "young people" hated the country or something. Season one of The Simpsons was extremely controversial - first with right-wing groups, then society ate large. "Do you see the way that boy talks to his father? My kids would never do that." "Baby Got Back" freaked white people the hell out. "Look at the way he talks about women," they yelled, ignoring the fact that a song with the exact same subject matter was a top 40 hit the previous decade. ("Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk" by Dr. Hook.) But the good doctor and the boys were white boomers, so... Billy Ripken's infamous 1989 baseball card was going to bring about the end of decency, manners and Western Civilization. And wasn't all this from the 80s/early 90s. Stuff like this is why I roll my eyes when people say "people had thicker skins back then". I liked Baby Got Back. Oh yes, many a student at school had to go home and get a new shirt when they came wearing Bart shirts, especially the one with The Catchphrase...

Not when I was young, but bath salts were going to take over and make everyone into mindless cannibals
