I was a huge fan of Samoa Joe when he first came to TNA. He was such an awesome silent badass killer.
So I looked up his ROH work and he was wearing a front facing baseball cap cutting a pretty average promo on an upcoming match. He just looked like average guy you would see coming over to fix your cable. No this was not the Impact killer, this was some dork in a baseball cap. Take that hat off. Killer Samoa Joe would have never looked like such a dork.
It was like seeing Tasmanic Taz Or Scott Hall with a mustache for the first time, it just didn’t look right.
What other early looks broke your reality of a wrestler when you first saw them.
Also if you want to add one off gear or promos in casual clothes, that broke you as well. Feel free to add those.
Looking at you Ultimate Warrior in a baseball hat… seriously no wrestlers should wear baseball hats but Austin and Cena.

Honestly ROH era Joe was a huge part of me maintaining my love of wrestling so maybe that colours my view somewhat but ROH Joe >>>>> TNA Joe.

Just askin'! Anyways, to throw my hat into the ring, one "pre-popular" image of a wrestler (or tag team in this case) that's always on my mind was that one image of The Hardy Boyz wearing plaid tights & bandannas. I swear, they look like the prototypes of the Young bucks. Also, they had the names "Faith" & "Hope" written on their tights (Just imagine if Jeff & Matt were referred to as Faith & Hope Hardy)... |
