“But, he apologised for getting caught, not for what he did. That’s ok with us”
This HAS to lead to a snowball of cancelled tickets/cancelled appearances right?

Surprised this took so long to be a thread, I heard about this on the weekend. Not a good look for WrestleCon

I’m surprised they managed to make it…*checks notes*…zero conventions.

Both Rick Steiner and WrestleCon's reputation have been removed.

Both Rick Steiner and WrestleCon's reputation have been removed. “We did not adequately take into account the impact his past words from our last event…” Man, if only there was a victim that would have likely been able to say why it affected her that you had three months to speak to before your first announcement. Shame Rick just aimlessly abused an invisible trans person, eh? And let’s take away the transphobic aspects of all this just for a second, someone who was at your event as a special guest abused almost unprovoked another person at your event as a special guest. That isn’t grounds for some kind of punishment, how exactly? Why risk your reputation and safety of literally everyone involved in your show for the sake of a guy who hasn’t wrestled in almost a decade now?

You can feel and believe whatever you want to feel and believe, but if you are actively and aggressively harassing someone the way he reportedly was doing, people are most certainly going to give you backlash about inviting the guy back. Now they miss out, Rick misses out, and we fans miss out...this was Comic Con week, and Mattel were likely planning to showcase the first Steiners Bros. duo there before this happened. So thanks, Rick.

"We want everyone to feel welcome" says the con the was ready to give a guy who was never relevant a ZERO con ban for harassing another guest and making an entire community feel unwelcome

"We did not adequately take into account the impact his past words from our last event still held in the LGBTQIA+ community" = "Oh, shit, people didn't just forget about that like we'd hoped."

So how long until WrestleCon cancels their entire event over this? Over/Under like two days? Seems like they're getting shredded.
Also god damn some of these Cons and promotions have some of the most dogshit PR I've ever seen.

Plenty of time for them to re-book him and see if it’s cool now.
Either way I expect next year’s Mania Wrestlecon will have him booked along with an admonishment that everyone deserves second chances

Also god damn some of these Cons and promotions have some of the most dogshit PR I've ever seen. I'm wondering how many of these people have PR teams and just disregard them in times of crisis. Owners/operators shouldn't handle the messaging for a public facing event like this, at least not on their own. I read the initial post when Rick was still going to be involved and the owner mentioned not handling the initial situation well because his wife had recently passed. I feel for him, but that's even more reason to NOT make yourself the face of an event, especially in a time of crisis.

I'm glad that in the end they realised how quickly their reputation was going down the toilet and reversed track, but it's hard to believe they take the bigotry at all seriously when they were willing to overlook it at the first opportunity despite one of their guests being abused publically without so much as a slap on the wrist.
