Today is the first Bandcamp Friday in a LOOOOOOOONG time - for the unaware it's the day when Bandcamp waves their fees and lets the artists have 100% of the money you spend on them, so let's all share what we're getting and what we're looking at!
My purchases:
Peter Mayer - "Mrs. Hippen Reads" (single)
petermayer2.bandcamp.com/track/mrs-hippen-reads
- This is normally not my particular style of music at all, but it's a really sweet folk song about a teacher choosing which books to add to her classroom library. Fell in love with it from the moment I heard it, just beautiful songwriting.
The Allergies - 'Tear the Place Up' (album)
theallergies.bandcamp.com/album/tear-the-place-up
If you're a fan of Avalanches or other hip-hop production teams, I highly suggest giving The Allergies a listen. One of the rappers from Ugly Duckling rhymes on a few tracks as well, really cool high energy trippy sample-based indie hip-hop
Mad Dog Mcgraw - 'Shit Talking 101' (mixtape)
maddogmcgraw1.bandcamp.com/album/shit-talking-201
Michigan rapper who I found randomly on Twitter. Some of the best punchline-centric rap I've heard in quite a while. That classic boom bap swagger with incredible timing.
Metasota - 'Another Year Older and Wiser' (single)
happyimpresent.bandcamp.com/album/another-year-older-and-wiser
Maybe the best rap artist to come out of Minnesota in the past decade, this was the single he released earlier this year on his birthday. A great entry point into his style.
Also, I'd be silly not to mention that my 'Year Long Spring Break' mixtape featuring Childish Gambino/Donald Glover, Mac Lethal, Homeboy Sandman and more is making it's physical debut on Bandcamp in remastered re-released quality - uddtba.bandcamp.com/album/year-long-spring-break
