Another sad passing in the music industry this week... Sixto Rodriguez passed away on August 8t, 2023. He had a minor career in the Detroit area, recording three albums in the early 70's, before retiring to work in construction. His music didn't have much success on American charts, but he had a huge impact in Australia and South Africa, where he was compared to Bob Dylan, and even reportedly outsold Elvis Presley. In 2012, Rodriguez was the subject of an Academy Award-winning documentary "Searching For Sugar Man", about two fans from South Africa who came to America to see what happened to their music idol. When they found him living in Detroit, he had no idea that his music was that successful in South Africa, and together they arranged a tour where he performed before thousands of fans he never knew he had. The documentary brought a new spotlight to his music in his homeland, with the 'soundtrack' from the documentary charting in the United States and Europe. He continued to write and perform, his last concert being in 2018. Sixto Rodriguez was 81. link to story on BBC

RIP. Fantastic music and an equally amazing life story. The documentary is one of the best things I have ever watched about music and his albums are top notch.
