Let's talk poker
I've been watching high stakes poker. Pro's playing for their real money. 1 million to sit down. It's funner watching them lose their own money and not just tournament buy in.
Who plays what where. I prefer hold em in a nice air conditioned casino room. I also host the 10 dollar home game and so often.
I'm also a Doyle Brunson mark. Johnny Moss is my hero.

I play Chinese Poker with my friends because...it's sadly the only poker game they know.
Seriously, they don't even know how to play REGULAR poker!

I always wondered about the Chinese poker games, they draw huge crowds at the local poker room. So what kind of stakes are people playing. My thing is if you play less frequently for higher stakes the action gets way more intense because there is something to lose.

I love Omaha, but Texas Hold 'Em is great, too. I only ever play in home games with low stakes. I like playing for fun, not stressing over how much money I stand to win or lose.

High Stakes Poker is great. It's great to see in season 2, Mike Matusow get paid $4,000 to stay and get busted by PHil Laak, and these two parts of banter.
Eli: Thank you baby, I appreciate it. Doyle: Baby now, if he had lost that pot he'd be saying, "Get away, Bitch"
and finally:
Doyle: Ted, I wanna apologize to you. Ted: For what Doyle? Doyle: I called you an idiot on national television. Ted: Yeah, I saw that.

I love watching high stakes poker on TV. It really ups my own game.
I also play Texas Hold em religiously on Bodog. I win more than I lose but I've been getting so many bad beats on that site lately that I've vowed never to make another deposit after I recieve the money that I cashed out from there today.
For instance, these two hands happened BACK TO BACK earlier. One right after the other... ABSOLUTELY ZERO HANDS IN BETWEEN.
I had KJ suited. The flop came out K A K. Someone pushed all in with $11 at the table. Everyone else folded out so it was my call and, having a set of Kings with a very good kicker, I called. He had A 7. So my set of kings against his pair of aces.... aaaaaaaaand what do you know... an ace comes out on the river giving him the higher full house.
I was pissed, but I still had $9 at the table after doubling that guy up. Next hand..
I had 7 8 hearts. Flop came out 6 of hearts, 10 of diamonds, 9 of spades. So seeing that I flopped a straight, I pushed all my money in (still aggravated from the last hand, mind you) and got one call. Guy had 6 of spades and 10 of spades. So his two pair against my straight. I had him dominated. Turn and river gave him runner runner spades for a weak ass miracle flush to make my straight no good.
I immediately cashed out the money I didn't have at that table and I'm officially on at least a 30 day break from online poker!

That's heartbreaking Yucky... I know the feeling...
High Stakes Poker is an awesome show...
My personal poker hero is Sam Farha... He just exudes that old school Vegas charm...
Me and my friends usually play Texas Hold'em, tournament style, $10 buy-in, $10 re-buy for half the chips... We sometimes bust out straight cash games... We also do a "Pick Your Poison" cash game at times where the dealer picks the games (Usually just among 5 card draw, 5 card stud, Texas, and Omaha)...
I play at the casino on occasion, but I don't have the patience... My play style is more suited for tournament style games...
I just wanted to share this also. My friend was recently at the casino on Friday playing Texas Hold'em. He was dealt pocket rockets and decided to play it slow, as somebody else made a moderate raise. He, and 3 other guys, called. Flop came up with two aces. My buddy was trying his hardest to hold back any emotion. Through another player's moderate betting (about 20 bucks for the flop, 20 for the turn) and then my friend's inevitable all-in on the river, my friend ended up making $350 bucks on this hand (1/2 blinds, 100 max buy-in).

I do much better in tournaments too but I usually don't have 2-3 hours to kill when I play online and the closest riverboat to where I live in 3 hours away, so I catch myself jumping into cash games online or playing at a buddy's house for a $10 buy in. When the latter happens, I usually get too tore off to even consider folding a good hand, so I'll just sit and watch how everyone else plays and carry those reads over to the next time I play. And I'm glad that story ended differently than I thought it was going to. Usually when someone (meaning myself) slow plays aces or more than one or two people call pre-flop, they get busted. That's a damn nice pot.. I wonder what the other person was calling with if they didn't put your buddy on at least one of the aces with two of them on the board. I really need to get to the casino soon. In my experience, rich people enjoy losing money. They'll call or chase anything and I'm usually able to get a half way decent read on people. I just feel like I do much better in person as opposed to being online but my limited time doesn't allow me to play much before 11 or 12 at night.

The guy who called the all-in had Pocket Kings... The other guy who was there almost all the way was chasing a straight... With the way my friend was betting (I.E. not betting, just following) I don't blame the Pocket Kings for calling... It just sucks that this was how it had to go down...

I enjoy a good poker game every now and then but the fact it's on tv somewhere constantly is starting to get to me. All these young card players think they're rockstars now or something. Still, poker table smack talk can be one of my favorite things. I like it when people can't resolve their differences and are sent to timeout. (World Series of Poker)
