Just saw it. I thought it looked ridiculous. Sammy kicking out of a beautiful looking top rope tombstone from MJF and then doing a high spot like 60 seconds later still annoys me and that happened like 2 years ago so I’m probably the wrong guy to ask on this topic. It’s just the way wrestling is now, for better or worse.

Kommander of all people kicked out of a god damn pile driver too. That was just dumb. Piledriver isn't Moxley's finish When it's not their finish, it's not their hardest hitting move. Moxley doing a piledriver is low on his ladder, and they're constantly talking about a wrestler training their necks to take these moves better in modern times. I Don’t care dude is a lower level talent kicking out of a damn pile driver.

I don't really think there's any going back from that, especially when the squash match has been replaced by the high-workrate match as a means to convince viewers that the big matches are worth spending money on.

My favorite Canadian destroyer story is when Pentagon was in Impact and he’d do a half dozen of them every match as he does. Then Petey Williams returned for a run in the company and Pentagon never did one when they were on the same show. Made me laugh.
Petey Williams only ever had someone kick out of his destroyer one time. He saved it for all those years until he earned his first shot at the Impact title against Eli Drake (LA Knight). He knew it was the most believable near fall he would ever have if he hit it and Drake kicked out…so that’s what they did. For that two and a half count…you had every reason to believe Petey Williams had just won the title. It was perfect.
As for what’s happened to the move since…who cares. Williams invented it and protected it and Pentagon doing a ton of them didn’t dull the effect when he’d hit it. Anyone who wants to spam it for zero counts doesn’t effect the original anymore anyway.

i had more issues with the finish...my friend and i were cracking up so hard...OC was dumped on his head twice and had his arm broke then won with a quick roll up then gave a "im a bad man" promo. It just didn't fit for me or the character...I love what he is doing with the belt but this was just different Cassidy did the exact same thing when he feuded with Jericho. He has a point where he can get angry and flip the switch, it's not a joke, it's done extremely well each time and it was here too He wasn't going "I'm a bad man" he literally said he was broken, but he didn't care, he was going to defend the title because it was HIS title until he couldn't anymore, and didn't care what Moxley did to him If the match didn't suit you then fine, but the entire point was to show Cassidy's not gonna go down, it's supposed to show "Oh god what's Moxley gonna have to do to keep him down?", and it's supposed to sell it as the main event of a PPV... and imo, it did all those things, but I get how much people sell or what should or shouldn't be a finish is starting to become a huge gap between a new and older gen of wrestling fans. yes it was hilarious, they bounced around like pingpong balls with the destroyers then the absurdity of how bad OC was getting beat up then he barely sneaked by a head shaking win then a promo after...It was funny and didn't work for me that was all.

I don't think the promo was funny, I thought it was very compelling and sold me on that match being the main event Match notwithstanding of course, I also don't think him escaping with the win is in any way counterproductive to what he was trying to sell with the match, as in the promo he stated he knows it's getting harder to wrestle, harder to compete, harder to win... essentially you have to kill him to take the belt, you're gonna have to find that way because he's gonna scratch and claw to find the out, and he showed it with Penta, he found the out Can he do that against Mox? That's the hook for the PPV. As I said I guess the spot and how it could be conveyed could look funny or not click with older fans as it normally can be that way, I just don't think it was absurd, but those are my thoughts on it is all.

Fair enough...bud I have no intentions on delving deep into this silly selection of spots and going into circles with you...the situation just didn't work for me, i found it humorous and that is what I have reiterated as my opinion.

You're good, I wasn't looking for anything contentious, I just wanted to present it how I saw it too Orange is one of my favorite wrestlers going today, he's someone I'll go to bat for lol

My attitude to any and all finishing moves in wrestling is “that is this guys kill shot. Nobody is getting up from it”. I always think of that Bruce Lee quote: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." (probably butchered that, been a while since I looked it up).
The DDT has been used as a transition move since the early 90’s, but if by some miracle Jake Roberts had a comeback and used the DDT I’d completely buy that he was putting away Mox, Roman Reigns or Omos. That is his move and he has perfected it.
I had the same thought during the Destroyer festival. It’s athletic and dangerous, and if the match had ended after one, fair enough but it’s not Penta’s nor Orange’s finisher so I was fine with it.
Also, Virgil did one a few years back so I think any mystique the move had has already been diminished.

Yeah, I don't get why a certain crop of fans are so protective of piledrivers recently when the standard piledriver hasn't exactly been a protected move since the mid 90s at least. Even the flip piledriver has been used a lot as a non-finisher for years now. Maybe it's because WWE had soft banned the move for a good chunk of the 00's and 10's. Or maybe the Tennis Racket Man threw a hissy fit about it. I don't really pay attention to him unless he's being a bigot and it gets out there. But it is in his wheelhouse.

I’m usually not this guy but….I thought it looked very dumb and more fake than I care for wrestling to look. Yeah this is pretty much me word for word I love goofy stuff and I don’t mind a bit of no selling on occasion but this was just a bit too far for my liking

Another in a rapidly increasing number of moments which made me feel like either AEW, or modern wrestling, just isn't for me anymore.
