Their version of 2005-2014 Cena or present day Roman. I don’t think it’s Punk due to his unreliability. Mox seems like he’s in his 2015 Cena era right now. Maybe MJF?

MJF and Mox I think could both hold this title
Though Orange Cassidy's really up there too with this title reign, he's been a workhorse

They don't have one. Anyone attempting to say otherwise is trying to fit a different company's paradigm onto AEW. They have never had clearly defined "top faces" and "top heels" outside of the moment. Whoever has the belt is the top whatever-alignment-they-are, and when they lose it they stop being so. There is a small cohort of top guys who slot into these roles on a situational basis. Jon Moxley is the man most often tapped for that and the closest AEW has ever come to having a main character during his initial title chase and reign, but that doesn't make him the Ace like Cena or Okada. Punk threatened and ultimately failed to upend that system. You cannot tell me AEW has an ace. It's the easiest thing in the world to disprove.

Still Mox, overall, for now. I've wondered about what separates a company's "Ace" from their "Franchise." To me, Moxley seems more like AEW's franchise player, as he is the most consistently reliable and has the drawing power to be tossed into any match/feud and give it the big fight feel. I have often viewed the "Ace" role going to Omega, as I reserve the title for a wrestler who will always perform to the highest level. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that, for me, the "Ace" is the workhorse, while the "Franchise" is someone that can consistently career the company.

I think you could make cases for Moxley, MJF, Omega or OC being the Ace

Mox is the ace. When the chips are down and they need someone to put up there or to do literally anything big, they call in Mox. MJF may get there, but Mox is it.

Jon Moxley. No other answer will suffice.

It's Mox, and it's always been Mox.
Mox was the face built up to take the title of Jericho
Mox was the name that carried the brand and the title through the dark days of the pandemic.
Mox was the one who stepped up after Punk injured himself the first time and they did an interim title.
Mox stepped up _again_ after Brawl Out.
If AEW has an MVP, a workhorse, a pillar that the boss can lean on anytime to get the f***ing job done... his name is Jon Moxley.

MJF - they could survive an injury to Moxley, Jericho, or Omega, but if MJF got put out of action, they would be fecked.
The three mentioned have been the company aces in the past but it's a step forward that their current ace is an "AEW guy" with no extensive WWE or Japan runs prior to rising to the AEW main event.

As much as the guy annoys me, it's Moxley.
If I were running AEW (you'd have a LOT more women's wrestling) he'd be the guy I was happy worked for me due to his work ethic.

It’s Moxley, though I’d bet Cody and Jericho thought differently.

1. Mox (multi time top champion, only second fiddle in his faction next to BRYAN, no injuries beyond the rehab stint so a constant presence) 2. MJF (Hottest act in the company regardless of alignment, also no injuries, and is still on the come up believe it or not, but liken him to the rapper The Game that relies too much on name dropping/shock factor promo wise) 3. OC (best gimmick, workhorse champion, notable wins but not featured prominently in feature matches [ie. no singles in wembley])

Overall - Mox. Followed closely by Omega.
This calendar year so far? Orange Cassidy and it’s not even close.

I hope when OC loses the belt he takes a long vacation, both because he's earned it, and because I really like the idea that he gave so much of himself to defend the international title that he's now got to take 3 months off just to recuperate from the experience

When you're Moxley, getting to bleed and throw yourself on broken glass IS a vacation.
Now, Renee might not agree, but...
