For those of you unfamiliar, back in the day, if you didn't order the pay-per-view, you could still listen to it on scrambled TV. I often did this, including the night of Halloween Havoc 98. But the unthinkable happened, as I confirmed with a few friends as well who were also listening that same night in other areas of the country.
As you know, those who ordered the PPV got cut off before the start of the Goldberg vs. DDP because the show ran past their allotted time. But those who were listening to it on scrambled suddenly got the Goldberg/DDP match. I was listening to wrestling for two hours with scrambled lines, then all of a sudden out of nowhere, the Goldberg/DDP match is coming in crystal clear. You talk about a holy shit moment as a kid. I couldn't believe my eyes and obviously had no clue what was going on.
The PPV used to run a replay immediately following the live broadcast. So then after the Goldberg/DDP match, the replay aires and it's back to scrambled.

As a "viewer" of some scrambled WWF shows in 1993, before someone cracked down and blocked the audio, this brings a twinkle to my eye. Also: How WCW.

I ordered it on viewers choice so I got it live on PPV as it happened.

Yeah, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I taped every PPV I ordered and I recall seeing the show in its entirety. I know I still have it (now transferred to DVD) somewhere in my collection.

It's important to note, that match only cut out on SOME PPV providers. Can't remember if it was Satellite or cable, but one method def worked Also, how did those black boxes work? It seemed like everyone had one

Eventually these were changing so often, and I forget how often now maybe daily or more than that, that my dad just gave up. By late 95 or so, I learned you could tune the Spanish audio in, for free. Since I had the picture, I’d just watch in Spanish.

I'll be blunt. I watched the match on a black box back in 1998. So my feed was not affected in any way. I recall the match was shown on Nitro the following night for those whose feed was blacked out.
