Damn. Asuka vs. Roxanne might be enough to get me to watch y'alls weird horny show again for one week. If you join, welcome back to the greatness. It does kind of make sense to shore up the ratings I suppose but at the end of the day, it’s basically admitting the NXT roster isn’t good enough to hold its own - which it isn’t but novelty booking main roster main event talent doesn’t solve that, if anything it makes it even more obvious. At least with AEW even if they stack their card, it’s with talent who will feature on the show almost every week. But the NXT stars will get the focus in the ring. Roxanne's either gonna beat Asuka, or she and Asuka are gonna end the match going after Kiana. So, Asuka's gonna be working with and getting more eyes on 2 people on NXT. Which by the way, they are all in on Kiana, she teamed with Tiffany to face Becky and Lyra, and now she's the one bringing in Asuka. Cena's there to back up Melo, and Melo's already worked with Seth and Judgement Day, so it's not out of the ordinary. Also, there's gonna be a point after the match where Melo snubs Cena, furthering Melo down the heel path. And I think Paul with Bron is a preview for what's gonna happen after the Bloodine is done, Bron becomes a Paul Heyman guy.

A direct competitor with a higher viewership is moving to their night head to head... sending Cody and Cena is pretty funny, but should they have just taken the L and got waxed by Edge and AEW?

Look, it's great that both shows will be loaded, reminds me of late 2019 where every week both Dynamite and NXT had absolutely STACKED cards. But it's hilarious how they shoehorned Cena and Heyman into that Melo/Bron match oh my goodness hahaha
I'm just cackling at the 'ey, I jus got off the phone with JOHN CENA' randomness of it all. And then Heyman looking like someone just got him up out of bed to shoot that promo in the parking lot. Wrestling is always better when it leans into the batshit.

I don't blame WWE for doing it, the hype machine is in overdrive these days and a loss of any kind to an AEW product wouldn't be ideal. When you've had Triple H in the past say things like "they beat our developmental system? Good for them, right?" and laughing though, people are going to take the piss when WWE add the likes of Cody and Cena to said developmental when faced up with AEW again.
I don't watch NXT but I'm hoping it leads to a stacked Dynamite and that both sets of fans have a quality show to enjoy, competition is a great thing.

It was more him being like "NXT is a third brand. I'll keep saying this as it moves to Wednesdays and we'll be competitive and be in the same bracket as Raw and Smackdown!" and then as soon as it was chased off to Tuesdays, he then was like "Pfft, they beat our Developmental. Big Deal" which Tony Hawk couldn't pull off a more glorious 180.

I don’t necessarily have an issue with bringing in main roster talent to the show if it’s supposed to elevate NXT talent but that’s not the reason they are doing it in this case, even if that’s how it’s being spun.

There’s part of me that hopes AEW blows em out or vice versa just because of the fan reactions we’d get.

Yeah, I’d be surprised if the front-loading of NXT on its regular night doesn’t lead to it beating Dynamite on an alternate night to its regular one. That said, AEW still have their “right of reply” on Dynamite this week in terms of what they want to load the show with. They already have Adam Copeland’s first non-WWE match in over 25 years and (I believe) Saraya v Shida for the women’s belt announced, and they do have literally the entire rest of wrestling to draw upon. Has Okada got any plans next week? And that is AEW's advantage they have so much to draw upon from outside their own company. Like I am pretty sure he already made the call to Okada. Maybe he gets Mayu (who has already said she is going defend the IWGP womens title overseas) and some other STARDOM and or TJPW women to do an all Joshi match Again he has alot to draw from. Man, if Mayu shows up on Dynamite then f*** NXT (sorry!!!).

Edge’s debut match was saved for the night they went up against NXT, were they not supposed to do anything about that?

As an aside, the Cody announcement has to be the return of the Dusty Classic, right? I think anything else would be out of place on that show.

Wrestling is so f***ing embarrassing sometimes.
And WWE, despite being arguably the most successful promotion of all time, hold all of the records for most embarrassing.
Say what you will about basically any other promotion that's really plumbed the depths like WCW or TNA but they had the decency to be appallingly unsuccessful in the first place or legit go out of business

Edge’s debut match was saved for the night they went up against NXT, were they not supposed to do anything about that? I don't think anyone is saying that? It's just more...shallow. Like the reason is there and upfront instead of using smoke and mirrors to make it seem like it was intentional. For me it's less that and more that the whole thing feels a bit...uninspired? There just felt there was more they could do with these builds and promoting said talent on the main roster a bit more so the matches make sense. You could have Roxanne and Carmelo on Smackdown doing different things and interacting with talent and flow them into the main shows in minor ways for people to go "Yeah, of course Cena would have Carmelo's back/Roman would approve of Bron/Roxanne would want to prove herself against a former NXT champion", just things that we knew would be on that show They knew Edge was leaving for AEW and they knew it would be likely he'd have his first match on a Tuesday show they knew was coming so using this opportunity to both promote No Mercy and the upcoming big Tuesday show and make it less like you're throwing stuff at the wall because they suddenly realized Edge was going to have his first match on TV. It was basically one of the things that lost them the Wednesday Night Wars in the first place, throwing match after match at the wall mostly undercooked and hoping that would work.

Maybe I'm just a more forgiving fan, but I kind of feel like they've had stars coming and going at random from NXT for months and months now? Even aside from Corbin and Ali who are now kind of regulars, Rhea, Dom, Becky have all been on more shows than they haven't and they're three of the companies top acts. And yes, this is about trying to shore up the audience to compete with AEW but they've also been doing this for months in advance of trying to get a new rights deal.
