I just finished watching the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
I saw the trailer when it first came out and it looked interesting but I just never checked it out for some reason. Guess I thought it was going to be one of those weird hour long Netflix shows and I didn’t want to invest the time. Also the reason why I couldn’t make time to watch Glow. Though now that I know it was cancelled before the last season, I don’t know if I want to watch it.
Man, it’s just like 30 rock and I’m all about that kind of humor. And I’m a big fan of Ellie kemper. I can’t believe I missed the entire run of this show. Kind of sad I finished it so fast as it only had 50ish episodes. It’s weird how it started before the Trump era but ended before Covid so it seems both kind of dated and recent. It looks the last episode actually came out in late 2019 and there was time skip at the end that put the canon end of the show at mid 2023 funny enough.
What shows have you gone back and watched that you just didn’t watch when it was new or caught up with a few seasons in?
Just started Only murders in the building last month and I caught up in time for the last 2 episodes in real time. Great show.
Being an old millennial in 2020 finally watching Avatar: the last air bender was quite the experience.
Finally watching My Hero academia despite years of all my friends talking about it and myself being a former anime nerd.

Breaking Bad, Schitt’s Creek, Bates Motel, Mad Men, Dexter
Didn’t see one of them live, only caught up because of the pandemic. So, I guess one good thing came out of Covid, which was being able to catch up on shows like these.

I didn't watch Breaking Bad until well after it ended.
Feel like this is also what's probably going to ultimately happen with Amphibia? I've dipped my toe into like two episodes of it and since the consensus seems to be that it gets better I do want to watch more, but I haven't really been rushing to actually get into it.

Barry, it was only recommended to me after the end of the final season. Was unaware of its existence until then despite it being one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past few years. No idea if the sources I use for recommendations are out of touch or if it was poorly marketed.

I didn't get into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Babylon 5 until they started showing reruns on cable.

For the longest time I avoided Superstore since I worked in retail and didn't want to be reminded of my daily life even it was presented in a satirical format, but now since I got my new job last spring (Which is still in a retail environment mind you but in the office where I do not have to deal with the public 95 percent of the time.) I can freely watch with a smile on my face and be thankful I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I goto Parks and Recreation a couple of years ago, and I’m just now starting Schitt’s Creek.

Succession, only started binge-watching right before the series finale.
I also got into Winning Time just as they got cancelled.

Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. I didn't watch Breaking Bad until just as Season 7 started. What a show--I kinda glad I didn't see it, as binging it I didn't have that thing that happens with a big gap between seasons where I forget bits.
Game of Thrones I watched just before Season 6 began.

Because of it's location, my parents didn't want me to watch Cheers. Eventually watched it in it's entirety, and have probably seen it a half dozen times.
Actually glad I waited since a lot of the jokes wouldn't have landed when I was a kid. As an adult, it's hilarious.

I started Breaking Bad a few weeks after it ended. Watched 6 episodes in that first day (not normal for me). I really enjoyed the show for the most part, though it was uneven. At times I was captivated, at times I was only getting through episodes by having it as background noise while I played games.
I tried Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt because it sounded like it would be up my alley but I just couldn't get past the second episode with the mean daughter. I don't know.
Parks and Rec is another that I tried late in the game because I'd heard so much about it and it seemed up my alley but I gave up after a couple of episodes. However, I may revisit it as I've heard the show doesn't truly find its legs until the second season. I should probably check out 30 Rock as well.
I was living with my friend the summer that Avatar: The Last Airbender was in its second season. She was watching an episode and I watched it with her and loved it. She then watched the series up to that point with me. It's a fantastic show with some of the best character development I've seen on tv, animated or real life. I own all 3 seasons on DVD and am glad that it had something of a resurgence a few years ago when it landed on Netflix.

Lost, Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad, Parks & Rec.
I generally don't watch shows when they're in the cultural zeitgeist.

By a couple of episodes only, but both my favorites, Ghosts and What We Do In The Shadows, were like this.
Actually, UK Ghosts is more like what the OP describes, as it was around for 2-3 years before I started watching it (after becoming a fan of the CBS version) It's not a series or part of the series outside of that one cameo in season 1, but I can say the same for WWDITS, the original movie.
Now, are we counting classics too? Cause that would add significantly to my list.

I got into Superstore about 2 years ago when it was either finishing or had already finished and it quickly became my comfort show

Actually glad I waited since a lot of the jokes wouldn't have landed when I was a kid. As an adult, it's hilarious. What was the issue with the location? I never saw it during the original run. I knew of it and always saw it as more of an adult show than kids show. The only shows I watched were either cartoons, wrestling or shows that followed or started before wrestling. I don't ever remember even seeing Cheers on TV in passing. When (I think Nick at Night) showed it in 2001, I watched all the episodes and liked it. My uncle looks like George Wendt so I always knew of him and saw some of his stuff prior to Cheers. I thought George was the standout on the show but it was an awesome ensemble.
