Wow... I completely forgot about the need to move the Maui Invitational. That stinks because i love the games at that venue.

RIP Bob Knight. (...you think they'll actually bury him upside down, as per his (probably not official) request? )

To start off the year, a MONUMENTAL upset, as James Madison downs number 4 Michigan State
James Madison in the span of a few days beat the Number 1 Ranked Team in NCAA Soccer, and now Michigan State. They've taken their undefeated football team being banned from bowl season very personally.

All Juwan Howard does is punch other coaches and lose basketball games.

I was just thinking about this while watching a bit of last night's Wake Forest vs. Duke game: has college basketball ever been less relevant in America than it is today?
Yes, the Final Four and March Madness still account for millions, if not billions, in revenue. But the game is severely lacking in star power or teams that capture a nation's attention. Last year's All-Tournament Team included only one player who went on to be drafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. There hasn't been a Naismith Player of the Year drafted in the first round since Obi Toppin in 2020. Only two of the top eight players drafted in 2023 were from college teams. The most recent 2024 mock drafts have only one college player getting drafted in the top five.
The game is a far cry from where it was in the 1990s, 2000s, or even 2010s when you had big-time rivalries and generational players. And I don't know why that is - it's not like the NBA is struggling to find talent, the association is about as deep as it's ever been. I would have assumed with NIL money and the transfer portal that college hoops would evolve and grow like college football has, but it feels like the most recent crop of star talent are either playing overseas or going to the G-League rather than plying their trade on the D-1 level.

It also doesn't help that if I wanted to watch all my team's games I'd need to have 8 different cable channels, 3 streaming services and then if they play Texas you need the goddamn Longhorn Network.

So expect the whole fans rushing the court in the Duke game to be a major talking point come Monday

Court Storming is gonna become banned in all conferences because fans can't wait even five seconds before doing it and have some decorum to the players who need to get out of there before they bum rush it
If they did this wouldn't be an issue but they're not patient anymore.

Court storming is f***ing stupid anyway. I'd have no problem with banning it outright.

I feel like court storming worked back in the day because people looked where they were going.
Now? Bunch of the "stormers" are staring at their phone and trying to get a cool video so they are literally just blindly bull rushing. And there seems so be a race to "be the first" so sometimes the fans are on the court before the clock even hits zero. That was the case with Wake/Duke. Freakin' animals chasing internet clout. It's embarrassing to the species as a whole.
Let's have a big electric fence (Jurassic Park style) in front of the student section and they don't turn it off until the opposing team is off the court.

I always liked storming the field in football. It looks cool as shit on TV, sometimes they'd steal the goalposts (and in this video hilariously look like ants carrying a dorito ) , and it was self-policed for the most part. Who would mess with college football players? 90+ of them? In full pads and helmets? After a loss? But with basketball these assholes can't avoid a dozen people??

Yeah, college football players in full gear can basically function as makeshift riot police if anyone really gets out of hand.
