Live Action Legend of Zelda Movie In The Works at Sony

Putting it in its own thread, but it's been confirmed by Miyamoto that Avi Arad is working on a Legend of Zelda movie.

Really would have preferred an animated film, but Nintendo's had decent critical and strong commercial success with Detective Pikachu and Mario so fingers crossed.

Can't really see a scenario in which it won't be terrible honestly. Most Zelda games have basically no plot depth to them at all and it's incredibly easy for a generic fantasy movie to just end up being a boring bloated chore of a watch.

I do agree that an animated version would probably be better. Getting stuff like Moblins, Gohma and Ganon on animation is easier than to do it in live action.

Well that's one way to get people to not worry about how Illumination would handle the franchise.

Having the guy who did Morbius and Kraven be one of those in charge of this is a giant red flag. He also did the Ghost in The Shell movie which is another bad sign.

Also it's the director of the Maze Runner movies, who has basically done nothing else.

I'll cut him a little slack, since he was quite heavily involved in making Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, and the Spider-Verse movies.

But he also gave the world Affleck's Daredevil, Elektra, Fantastic Four, Man-Thing, X-Men: The Last Stand, Ghost Rider, Rise of the Silver Surfer, Bratz, and the Venom movies. His is not a filmography I would look at and think "This is the guy I want in charge of my Zelda movie."

But, it doesn't exactly give me much expectation that it'll work, we'll see, it's been such an off and on thing for so long that at this point might as well see if you can make it work.

People have been mentioning Tom Holland as Link and shit, f*** around with that if yall want but Tom Holland is the same height as Link and he's got the right look. I won't be surprised if it's him or Timothée Chalamet.

I just don't know why Nintendo would partner with post-Spider-Verse Sony and not go animated.

Illumination got Mario and his world down perfectly, I would've trusted them to be able to animate and bring Hyrule onto the big screen and all its characters.

With this we could get like with Captain N where King Hippo was colored blue and MegaMan was green.

Miyamoto is involved so I assume they're gonna try and make everything as accurate as possible, the issue will be stretching it out into a cohesive film
