Watching those trailers for Migration, got me to thinking about the Ugly Duckling story, and the more I think about it, the more I think it is anti adoption. Only people of "your kind" can love you moral.
Match up with all those other stories that have evil step parents, it is just messed up.

Being fair the evil step-parents thing actually mostly stems from how a lot of the original forms of those stories were about biological parents them they made them step-parents because I guess not being blood-related is supposed to soften the impact or something. Either way I don't think that's the intended moral, but it is certainly an aspect that shines through.
It's kind of a problem that permeates the entirety of Star Trek. For a series all about tolerance and being interconnected it has an extremely consistent tendency toward, "But you belong with your own kind," kind of stories.

Must everything become deconstructed? Does this post have a secret anti-evolutionist meaning?

No, it's a story about how outward beauty is what really matters. That's the moral of the story.

The moral of the story is that only the most beautiful ducks get killed and sold to Chinese food restaurants.

No you're one of the pretty ducks... who makes fun of the ugly one"

Fun fact; Swans are generally absolute jerks in real life. Of all waterfowl, it is by far the most aggressive, territorial and even meddlesome if you have something they want.

If they meaner than geese that is something. We got a pile of geese that live on the lake, then more that stop off on their trips south. Loud annoying and aggressive fowls.

Cobra chickens hate everyone on a personal level. They also poop a lot.

I always thought the "evil step parents" from the really old tales and fables really meant "this kid was an actual house slave" and the "step parents" are the owners.
