Who are some guys (or girls) who are relatively obscure yet still got a singles match on PPV (I'm not counting tag teams or battle royal matches, that makes it too easy)? First one that comes to mind is Jim Steele, who defeated Equalizer (the future Dave Sullivan) at Superbrawl 4.

Character more than guy but Mordeci somehow got two.
Well he should be obscure but he's actually strangely memorable.
Daniel Puder and Little Boogeyman are others that are remembered despite short runs.

My immeadiate go-to is the Jesus who was Carlito's second that Cena crushed at Armageddon 2004. But then I looked up the rest of the card and Kurt Angle had a match against "Santa Claus" who was Big Vito. Marty Garner at No Mercy 2006 being the jobber for MVP's debut This is a good call as Marty was probably only known beyond the Carolina indys in tape-trading circles as 1) the guy who took the really f***ed up Triple H pedigree and 2) the guy who made Jerry Lawler look REALLY good on Superstars in a June 96 squash match.

The opening match of Souled Out 1999 was Mike Enos v Chris Benoit. And it wasn't even a squash like a lot listed so far. It was a competitive match that went over 10 minutes.

I wouldn't say Buddy Landell was obscure, but what was up with him showing up at In Your House against Ahmed Johnson? Was he a legit last-minute replacement for Douglas?

El Gato. Better known as Pat Tanaka. For some completely unknown reason Pat Gato received a US title shot against Konnan at the Great American Bash 96. Not sure what El Gato ever did to earn a US title shot, back when that belt still meant something, on one of the biggest WCW ppv's of all time, but it happened.
Cobra aka the future NWO Sting. Had a military gimmick and was feuding with Sgt Craig Pittman over a beef from their time in the military together. Pittman had deserted Cobra in combat or something like that. Anyway, the feud seemed like a pretty big deal during the late summer of 95. The blow off match at Fall Brawl lasted a few minutes, Pittman won by submission with his finisher and I don't think we ever heard from Cobra again. 14 year old me was left scratching my head wondering why the big buildup just to make Cobra look like a total chump.
Yoshi Kwan. Short-lived "Asian" karate character played by Chris Champion, a white guy. Got a modest push throughout the summer of 93 before losing to Cactus Jack at Fall Brawl and being banished to jobbberdom for the remainder of his run.

Daniel Puder and Little Boogeyman are others that are remembered despite short runs. I’ll maintain that Mordecai had the potential to be a great gimmick, unfortunately he was way too green at the time.

Pre-Doink Matt Borne against Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania I. Executioner/Buddy Rose too. It's a minor surprise that they didn't have a place for him when they gave him the minor joke push with Blow Away. I assume any battle royals are exclused, hence singles matches?

I would like to nominate Tim Parker. His lone PPV appearance was him getting squashed by Oz in under 30 seconds at SuperBrawl 1.

To this day I still have no idea who JW Storm is nor why he got a match against Brad Armstrong at Halloween Havoc 1990.

Mr. Ito at Starrcade '84. He was an All Japan mainstay in the 70's and jobbed for a while in Mid South.

Not really that obscure, but Lelani Kai getting a women's title shot against Alundra Blayze at WMX was a random pick, I guess they wanted someone who had wrestled at WM1 to be at the show, and all the other options were either dead, retired, or in WCW/Other promotions.
