Well looks like this movie finally got made, and honestly? It looks good. Much more 2 than 3 which helps a lot. Saw someone say it's very modern day Bruckheimer, which is the best you'll get for a Beverly Hills Cop 4 film, plus we have Taggert and Rosewood back so yay! No release date yet www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBG3iyr5N70&ab_channel=Netflix

The biggest issue with Beverly Hills Cop has always been the name.
Beverly Hills Cop
Why couldn't they call it "Detroit Cop in Beverly Hills" or something similar? The drawing factor of the first movie is how Axel is a fish out of water and his interactions in a foreign environment.
Unfortunately, that only works well in the first movie. So if you make it a franchise, you're boxed in because of the title.
Imagine if the series instead where Axel goes to Scotland Yard, South America or to Japan or something? It would be way better. You would get far more mileage out of it.
Instead, as much as I like the supporting cast in the original, having them there to rehash the same things that made the original good, no longer help the movie.
Absolutely love the first movie and hate the sequels. Hopefully this new one works better.

I decided to watch all 3 on night. First one is excellent, second is very good but not as good, third one left me wondering if they had even see a Beverly Hills Cop movie when they made it.
I’ll check this one out.

That was actually the original pitch for the third movie. Bogomill would get kidnapped by terrorists during a police convention in London (later changed to gangsters), and Foley would work with a Scotland Yard detective (initially planned to be Sean Connery, then later John Cleese). It didn't get very far, as Ronny Cox so succinctly puts it: "They wanted me to be in Beverly Hills Cop III, but... I read the script."

2 is still my favorite. Might even be my favorite Eddie Murphey film. Loved how in the time between films Foley and the Beverly Hill PD guys kept in touch and became close. Really loved the stylistic cinematography and more bombastic soundtrack. 3 just watered all of that down, which seemed to be the style at the time (see also Robocop 3 and later Terminator 3).

Really loved the stylistic cinematography and more bombastic soundtrack. 3 just watered all of that down, which seemed to be the style at the time (see also Robocop 3 and later Terminator 3). John Landis thought the script was terrible but figured that didn't matter cause Eddie would just ad lib stuff and make it funny like in the first two... Eddie however decided that "Axel Foley had grown up and was no longer the wise cracking rookie" and at least per Landis, basically refused to do anything funny... he'd put Eddie in a situation where he could do his thing and Eddie would just kinda ignore it. I mean this is John Landis speaking (except for that Grown Up bit Eddie said that multiple times in interviews), but just watching certain scenes in this movie it definitely comes across as true. Like the scene where Axel is hassled by the employee of the theme park that he needs to buy a ticket to get in, Eddie looks at him and throws money at him... if this was One or Two he would have slipped into a character and smooth talked his way into the park.
