“Rebooted” itself after season 9 or 10 whatever is considered the prime hears and was rebranded under a different name? It’s basically a looney tunes style cartoon now and lost all semblance of continuity.
Or would they get annoying fan base you’d see like Teen titans who would complain about wanting the original version back?

With the best writers gone, nothing would have helped.

With the best writers gone, nothing would have helped. Oh in my mind, it’d be the same level of quality, just the fan anger towards it would be different? Instead of “the simpsons hasn’t been good in… years” it’s be more like “I miss the original version of the simpsons”. Like teen titans and teen titans go

I think what could have helped The Simpsons was lowering the number of episodes a year and having extended stories like South Park started doing ten years ago. South Park went from 14 episodes (7 in the spring and 7 in the fall) a year to 10 episodes a year in the fall. If the Simpsons cut the number of episodes a year in half starting between seasons 11 and 15, that would have definitely helped.

Age up the characters. More stories to tell when you let characters have different life experiences.

Age up the characters. More stories to tell when you let characters have different life experiences. You can tell how badly they want to age up the characters when all the fastforward/future episodes are like the best written stuff every season. Teenage Bart and Lisa have the potential for so many stories that’s not just the same old junk.

I feel like if The Simpsons got big today and not in the 90s, we'd have a Bart spin off show.

Age up the characters. More stories to tell when you let characters have different life experiences. If Bart is still ten and Marge & Homer started dating in high school and she got pregnant a few years later then the next Homer & Marge high school flashback show should show one of them (Barney?) going through an emo phase and Rihanna and Weezer would be what the couple listen to. Instead of jokes about Homer spoiling the end of the original Star Wars trilogy it would be the ending of the Harry Potter books/films. We are only a few years away from flashbacks showing a high school aged Homer annoying everyone with Gangnam Style as his ringtone.

The "I haven't watched since season Y, just end it already" crowd is an odd bunch. There's literally no difference between cancellation and you not watching the show.

I appreciate that the show at least has gotten some of it's mojo back and is pumping out some great new episodes lately. A lot of that has to do with a new co-showrunner being assigned after years of Al Jean simply no longer giving a toss.

I always felt at some point they should have aged up the characters and put Bart and Lisa in High School so that the show could actually explore things like romance and getting jobs in earnest, instead of the weirdly forced way they have to do it with ten year old's. Move Maggie into Springfield Elementary to keep that supporting cast around.
Of course the window of opportunity for something like this has long since passed.
