160. Definitely, Maybe (2008) - kind of like a How I Met Your Mother but wrapped up in under two hours. I didn't think this was too bad overall.
161. Deadpool (2016) 162. Deadpool 2 (2018) - didn't plan to watch three Ryan Reynolds film in a row, but wanted to revisit the Deadpool movies, I enjoyed both very much, think it's hard to seperate them in which I like better, first movie might take edge but its close.
163. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009) - enjoyable animation, it's Lord and Miller so I'm not surprised.

2024 New Releases
#21 All You Need Is Death
The premise of this one really intrigued me: A group collecting rare folk ballads secretly record an old-Irish song and in doing so commit a great taboo, unleashing an ancient evil.
The movie starts strong. The highlight of the movie is definitely when our group encounter the bizarre witch-like woman who delivers the haunting and forebody ancient song and the movie has a closing scene that should stick with you and feels very appropriate for a folk-horror. Unfortunately however everything in the middle-section of the movie sort of falls off. The effects of the curse don't make for the most interesting cinema, the pacing feels off and I kept getting taken out of the movie with questions that had nothing to do with the mechanics of ancient Celtic evils but were more along the lines of how did characters find themselves in certain places beyond the script needing them to be there.
VERDICT: A really strong beginning with an enchanting performance by Olwen Fouéré, but a meandering middle means this doesn't live up to its really strong premise.

Kindergarten Cop (1990) - What a baffling film. Always wanted to rent it as a kid thinking it'd be a slapstick comedy. It barely starts that way before descending into a tonal acid reflux.
On one sequence it's a milquetoast family outing, the next it's a thriller, after it's a drama, then a parody of all, but at such a slow pace that you never have the fun that would come from whiplash. How do you f*** up what should be such a fun premise? **

30. Battle of the Sexes
Unlike Scoop, this is how you adapt a real life event.
All the performers nail it, they have spectacular chemistry. The satellite characters are integrated really well I to the themes and the relationships are fantastic.
Read up on the real people and wow, that sounds like its own film, really changes the Marilyn relationship...

62. What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (2018) 63. Beyond the Time Barrier (1960) 64. The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space (1995)I only recently discovered this existed. Originally meant as a television pilot, this 90's TV movie is basically what happens when you throw an old Flash Gordon serial, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Galaxy Quest into a blender and take none of what comes out seriously. For those not familiar, Ty Farrell is an arrogant 1950's television actor playing a Captain Video-esque superhero called "Captain Zoom". He's abducted by the people of the planet Pangea, who have no concept of fiction (although they do know snark), and thinking he's a real superhero they ask him to lead them against the evil Lord Vox (played by Ron Perlman). Oh, and Nichelle Nichols shows up as well. This was obviously made on a pretty tight budget and is not always completely coherent (it feels like there are scenes missing), but its jokes mostly land and it's entertaining in a cheesy 90's way. I wouldn't have minded seeing this continue as a series.

No offense to Olivia Colman but it blows my mind that Lady Gaga didn't win Best Actress for this. [****½]

It's weird that this movie is so stupid, yet I don't think it leans into the stupidity enough. [**]

51-Madame Web-Blu Ray
You dont start a day thinking I will end up owning Madame Web and make an evening of watching it today.
But it happens. If it was called somethng else and not connected to Sonny's spiderverse it wouldnt be bad at all. As it is worth catching on Starz in a few months.

164. The Hate U Give (2018) - I'd be skirting too close to politics but it covers so much of what you saw in a major (non pandemic) event in 2020 is telling how things never change, don't to people talking excactly like you'd read on social media.
165. Looper (2012) - I'm a sucker for time travel movies and I liked this one.
166. Batman: Hush (2019) - Though Batman: TAS, is still the flag bearer for me with animated Batman, I've enjoyed many Batman animated adventures since then and can add this to the pile.

66. Boy Kills World - Saw this in theaters. I was torn between seeing this or the re-release of "The Mummy." When I saw that there was a small number of showings at my theater, I only speculated that it won't be too long until it's out of this theater. Plus, I was drawn by the trailer I saw of this.
For the most part, this film is a fun thrill ride. Yes, there is a lot of frenetic action, but there is good fight choreography, and a lot of the action is rather over the top. As a sucker for action flicks, I was right at home as I figured it would be a dumb and over-the-top action movie, and this film delivered in that regard.
However, what also works is that this film feels like it is heavily inspired by video games and the "John Wick" series. Also, the voice-over narration for the main character works because this film doesn't take itself seriously, at least until towards the end. Yes, there was a tonal shift to explain the backstory for the protagonist, as well as two other major characters. I get why it was done, and it's not the first time I have seen a tonal shift like that.
Overall, if you're looking for a dumb action movie to get thrills out of, this could be for you.

67. Stand By Me (1986) - Watched this on Showtime on Demand. A female friend (who I am also talking to) and I talked about this film earlier, especially since she had been on Stephen King kick lately. I also remember seeing some of this film on a local channel in the 1990s, but not all of it
All I can say is that this film does live up to its reputation. I had read that this film was based on a novella called "The Body," by, as noted before, Stephen King. I thought all four leads had good chemistry. It's a real shame that River Phoenix is no longer with us because I thought he and Wil Wheaton had a good dynamic. I also liked the use of 1950s music in this film.

I really love this concept and wish this film did more with it. The performances are good and the music is top notch though. [***]

A very basic premise that is solid enough throughout but gets boosted by Anne Hathaway's performance. [***]

20. Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate
A medium quality sequel to a fifteen year old movie that includes none of the original voice actors. It was watchable.

52. Boardheads-MGM DVD
Thrift we were in had a deal. Which meant I paid 2 bucks for 4 movies. This was the only one of that 4 I hadn't heard of. Read the back and was like "ok this sounds a bit like HARDBODIES"
It is Hardbodies for the first 2/3rds. Two mid 20s surfer dudes are 3 months behind on the rent. They throw an eviction party to make money and in comes Bronson Pinchoet and his 2 buddies.
Who end up hiring out our 2 surfer guys to teach they how to pick up women at the beach.
Then to make more money the surfer dudes hold a Bikini Sports contest. Any "sport" that can be head at or by the beach and done in a bikini happens. And winner gets a big prize.
Made in the late 90s and sitting on the shelves for 5!!! years this is that film on Gabrielle Anwar's IMDB she I bet doesn't like talking about.
She is the mechanic GF of the lead surfer guy. Who walks around in swimwear and works on cars. Plus enters the Bikini "SPORTS" contest to win enough to open up her own car garage.
A good handful of the non-main cast are people you will remember from various 90s tv and film.
5.3 this needs that goofy looking lanky redhead dude from Children of the Corn,Courtney Gains I think, out of 10.

Kind of impossible to watch this and not compare it to The Departed. It's different though and while I do think the remake is far superior, this is a pretty great intense film. [****]

21. Trolls Band Together
I’m not quite sure why my wife keeps making me watch these movies. They just seem to tiptoe along the line between really cute and totally effing annoying. The best part of the whole thing was the barrage of boy band jokes at the beginning and the end.

167. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) - enjoyable, but not quite enjoyable as the first one.
168. The Sweetest Thing (2002) - objectively there is some funny stuff, but is more okay then anything IMO.
