8. Wild Card (2014/2015) - Watched this on Blu-ray. After watching "Redemption" (or "Hummingbird" for the non-Americans) recently, I recalled I had gotten this from the library and felt it was as good of time as any to give this a watch. I am on somewhat of a Statham kick lately. Sure, I could put on the "dumb" or "over-the-top" ones like the "Crank" movies or the "Transporter" movies, but I have been curious about some other ones that I haven't see.
I will be blunt - I didn't expect this to be a more "serious" type of Statham flick. Not a bad thing, by any means. I recall thinking "Homefront," which I need to revisit, was kind of like that. Anyway, I had heard that this film was kind of a remake of 1986's "Heat," with Burt Reynolds, not to be confused with the 1995 of the same name (the one directed by Michael Mann, and starred Al Pacino and Robert De Niro). I haven't seen that film, personally, but when the time comes that I do, I may see some similarities. With that said, for what this movie is, I can see that there was only a handful of action scenes. The rest has more of a dramatic story going for it with different plotlines coming into play, but I think it was more focused on Statham's character, because you had one plotline involving an ex who came to Statham's character for help, as well as a young rich guy who wanted his help, but in a different way.
With this film being directed by Simon West, I was a little intrigued on his direction. I have enjoyed other films of his, whether it's "Con Air," "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," and "The Expendables 2," but I had heard done other types of films. I got to give him credit for his direction.

No 3: The Outfit (2022), Netflix, 1st viewing.
This was an excellent mix of both arty (all filmed in one set so it could have been a play, the lead was the very thespian/luvvie-like Mark Rylance) and action-packed (a gangster film full of twists and betrayal). It lost money at the box office which didn't surprise me as I had never heard of it before so they did a rubbish job of promoting it. Anyway, I recommend it. Rylance is an English tailor (or cutter) working in 1956 Chicago while various gangs fight for control of its streets and a motley crew of characters comes through his doors.

I really enjoyed the second Shazam film for what it was and it's a shame that they'll probably not be a third.
I've never seen Lansky or even know much about the man if I'm being honest. The fact that Harvey Keitel starred in it meant it was an easy choice for me to watch it.
I revisited The Mechanic films for the first time in a few years and they are decent action films but not much else.
I went for the cinema for One Life and The Bee Keeper. Completely different films but I loved both, I probably needed a cheerful mindless film after One Life tbh. Anthony Hopkins once again proving he's still got the acting chops after such a long career. The Bee Keeper was a cracking action flick, high body count and basic story but it was a fun watch.
I sat yesterday and did the Despicable Me trilogy for the umpteenth time, the only improvement was the quality as it was my first time on 4k Blu Ray.
5 - Shazam! Fury of the Gods 6 - Lansky 7 - Mechanic, The 8 - Mechanic: Resurrection 9 - One Life 10 - Bee Keeper, The 11 - Despicable Me 12 - Despicable Me 2 13 - Despicable Me 3

9. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) 10. Gor (1987)So on New Years Eve I watched Yor, the Hunter from the Future. That sent me down a rabbit hole which led me to this. For those not familiar this is another low-budget 80's sword and sorcery movie based on John Norman's Gor novels. Here, a nerdy college professor somehow winds up in a desert world surrounded by half-naked, fur-clad barbarians and amazons, and has to kill their evil King or something. This is pretty boring and uninspired S&S adventure. It hits all the cliches of the genre, and doesn't do anything new, different or interesting with them. It even lacks the "WTF?" moments that Yor had. Ahh GOR. YOu want WTF go read the books. Then do some research on the people that live a Gorian Life ..... 10-Airheads-HULU Dumber than dumb movie, that never fails to make me laugh. Odd too cause saw this when it came out and hated it. Left the theater a bit mad I had paid to see it. Then what was it COmedy Central aired it every weekend for years and thru repeat viewings at work and home I came to love the film. 9.9 Trick Questions STEVE BUSCEMI IS GOD out of 10.

Ahh GOR. YOu want WTF go read the books. Then do some research on the people that live a Gorian Life ..... Well all that sounds... actually incredibly disturbing. It is. Back in 2008 or so I heard of the novels. Was told they were sci fi/fantasy pulp style stuff. Year later at a con, last hour of con, book dealer is doing 25 cents a book buy 4 get 1 free. And I got the first 18 or so GOR novels. First 2 are fairly standard Conan meets Lord of the Rings ripoffs. Then they proceed to go farther and deeper down the GORIAN rabbit hole. Gave up by novel 4 and sold the stack for way more than I paid. had like 4 bucks total in that series.

My mom oddly wanted to watch a sports doc so we went with this. I liked it a bit less the second time around but it's still pretty great. [****]

9. Blue is the Warmest Color (French title: "La Vie d'Adèle – Chapitres 1 & 2"; translation: "The Life of Adèle: Chapters 1 & 2")
Watched this on Blu-ray.
I remember hearing about this film back in 2013 and how it was featured at the Cannes film festival. I also recall a theater in my area showing it, but I didn't go see it. Also, I had heard that this film is based on a comic book of the same name. I had requested both the Blu-ray of this and the comic from the library. I read the comic first and then watched the film.
Because I read the comic first, I was able to see some elements from the story in this film, and I also saw that there were some differences. Also, with this movie being three hours long (yes, really), I wondered what was there to be told. Well, a lot more than I thought. Being that the final act of the comic had a time shift, I saw that there was a time shift in the film, too. Also, with the film being as long as it is, I could see that there is a reason the French title had "Chapters 1 and 2," as the second half of the film dealt with more of the relationship between the two leads and the problems involved, whereas the first half was their courtship.
I was invested in the relationship between the two leads. The chemistry between the two was genuine (they also became close friends on set), but my main gripes were the sex scenes. Some of them went on too long, and while in some ways they were a little hot, they were also a little bit laughable. It's like I was watching an adult film in some areas.
As for any comparison between the film and the comic book, I took each of them as their own thing. The comic had a sad and tragic ending, while the film, while there was a heartbreaking scene towards the end, it was more bittersweet than anything.
While I thought the film was good for the most part, it's hard to recommend not only because some lesbian romance movies may not be everyone's cup of tea, but also the length.

11.The Butcher-DVD
So cause of my annual 31 horror movies in October thing and not wanting to repeat films I will grab any cheap horror dvd that is 1 buck or less and doesn't like it total shit.
2005 or 2006 SUV full of douchebags are on their way to Vegas. Take a shortcut. Doing a dumb stunt and one of the women gets killed. They run to ffind help and we get a standard inbred family in a rural area slasher.
Decent gore but no one in the "heroes" is someone you give a f*** about. LOokedd it up no one from this film went on to do much.

10. Alpha Dog - Watched this on Starz On Demand. I had been curious about this movie for many years. I recall it was released at the start of 2007, and I also later learned that it's based on stuff that really happened, which is now making me curious about reading the book from the mother of the real-life murder victim. I recall Larry Clark's "Bully" being the same way (why do I suddenly feel like revisiting that film?). Anyway, here is what I think of the film.
I don't know the full details of the tragedy, but I could see the writing and the direction shows the extremes of getting involved in the wrong crowd. Also, how a criminal lifestyle is not worth it. Many of the characters were not likable, except for Anton Yelchin's (RIP) character and a slight maybe for Justin Timberlake's character. Other than that, I also saw what the whole story tried to convey, especially when the film itself was based on something that really happened.
As for anything else, I was a little intrigued by Nick Cassavetes's direction. The parts with different frames showing different perspectives in some scenes, as well as the framing of the film having some scenes with characters being interviewed for a documentary, and also the odd visuals in some scenes. I wonder if there was some symbolism to it because although it was obvious it was shot on a soundstage, but there was some odd coloring and dark filters in those scenes. There has to be some symbolism to the way those scenes were done.

10. Babylon 5: The Road Home
Amazing to see new B5 after all this time. Sad so many aren't with us anymore.
This was a cool side plot, fairly standard sci-fi but the characters are all there, they slip right back into them. It's one of those things that feels half its own thing half a celebration to the show so I'm taking it as that. There's a couple of people I'd have liked to have seen in it but what's there is great.
The animation was just beautiful, it's never looked so good.

11. Smokin' Aces - Watched this on Blu-ray. I was in the mood to watch this, so I dug it out of my personal collection. I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out at the start of 2007. I recall that this movie tried to do something similar to Quentin Tarantino's style, but not to the extent of some films in the 1990s. This was in the 2000s, so while it was past the trend, it still had a similar style, especially with some of the comedic elements in it.
This film also had quite an all-star cast. With that many characters, you could only do so much. It was also interesting to see Chris Pine in one of his earlier roles. The same goes for Joel Edgerton. The lighting and the cinematography worked for this movie as a crime/action/comedy caper, but one of the parts that annoyed me was the revelation, the explanation, and the major tonal shift at the end of the movie. I understand there were some serious moments during the course of the film, but right then, it was like I was watching a different film suddenly.

12-Sleepy Hollow High-DVD
Years back saw the trailer and then found it on VHS. Then found the DVD. Finally watched it last night and what a pile of crap. Like ok in slashers I dont have to like the characters as long as I get good kills. This gave me nothing.

13-Little Giants-Youtube
Someone in this thread mentioned Ladybugs being on YT. Went looking for that and found Little GIants. Which I am guessing I havent seen since it hit VHS what 30 years ago? Standard Bad News Bears like kids sports movie. I could see this being a film I would love if I saw it as a kid. But seeing it now it is decent.

26. PLEASE DON'T DESTROY: THE TREASURE OF FOGGY MOUNTAIN (2023) Comedy Troupe gets their own movie and it's basically okay with a well rounded cast of supporting actors/comedians. Conan O'Brien in an acting role caught me off guard. The joke of John Goodman being the narrator was a personal joy. And the best character is a CGI Hawk.
Kind of wish I'd liked...you know...the main group.
27. ARMY OF FRANKENSTEINS (2013) Army. Of. Frankensteins..."What if there were a Frankenstein Monster during the Civil War?...What if there were more?"
Nonsense factory film that has no qualms letting you see the edges with its 'barely holding on' budget to turn in a cuckoo factory story.
28. BAD COMPANY (2002) That Chris Rock/Anthony Hopkins combo the world always wanted. Early Chris Rock film that actually uses him much better than more current Chris Rock stuff.
Don't get me wrong, there is still a "Stop the movie, Chris gotta do a bit!" moment or two, but it works better when you cut to Anthony Hopkins looking on, quizzically.
