Surreal to see WWE stars accepting PWI awards. Back in MY day, no one from the WWF went within 50 feet of Apter. It was always "A friend of Hulk Hogan says..." or "Randy Savage's agent..." or "Ultimate Warrior's psychiatrist..."
My real curiosity is...what were the Unofficial Official Awards for 2023?

Match of the YearWINNER: Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley - WrestleMania 39 Night One (13%) Still should have mained night one Yeah. I get why they didn't, with all the emphasis the Bloodline story got, plus the internet not having goodwill for them because of Charlotte being involved (which led to them deciding that men's tag wrestling was a more important equity issue), but it's a brilliant match that holds up very well on rewatch.
Rhea was so popular with PWI readers that she got fifth in wrestler of the year as well as her 50% in the women's wrestler vote, where Toni and Bianca got 7% and 6% respectively.

Zack Ryder as Indie Wrestler of the Year. Not something I don’t think any of us would’ve imagined.

Match of the YearWINNER: Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley - WrestleMania 39 Night One (13%) Still should have mained night one I think Charlotte definitely went in there with the attitude of “I got bumped from the Night 1 main event AGAIN?!? I’ll show you motherf***ers…” Both of them performed like they had something to prove and by golly, they proved it!

What a f***ing disaster of a year for tag team wrestling in the promotions I watch. Retirements, injury and changing promotions broke up some of my favourites, vacant dominated tjpw and AEW’s divison is just a shadow of what it was. Means I can think this list is crap but can't argue against it.
Also my annual reminder that what I like rarely matches the pwi consensus. Not just in the popularity contest sense, wwe will always come out top but even things like several gcw women getting mentions ahead of Rina Yamashita. Although often because of their work elsewhere tbf.
Good to see Toga get 10% of the rookie vote though, she has a bright future.

Charlotte/Rhea was a good match, but I wouldn’t put it anywhere within a hundred miles’ range of the conversation for MOTY. That’s puzzling.
