Saw a clip on Instagram of Hogan joining the nwo and some commentators kept calling it wwe and that just annoyed me. “Same difference” they said when called out.

Whatever things you notice people lump all together even though there is a difference?

Doesn’t have to be super well known pop culture, but also things specific to your culture or area of interest.

Like for example:

Samurai. Anyone with a sword is a samurai in pop culture. The correct term is swordsman. A samurai is swordsman under the shogunate or feudal lords. A ronin is a masterless samurai.

This is especially egregious for Samurai x. He’s literally anti shogun, and literally calls himself a Wandering swordsman (Rurouni). The media blasters dub fixed this, but there’s a lot pocket of people who still refer to it as samurai x for some reason.

I was gonna point out Blue eyed samurai but there’s a specific set of dialogue where she says “I’m not a samurai! I’m just a swordsman”

Speaking of the Japanese, have you had Mochi? It’s a Japanese rice cake. It’s literally just a block of dough made of sweet rice. Yet most people when they ask for mochi, they specifically want the red bean Daifuku dessert. I mean get it for that, but more jarring is when I send a customer to it, and they meant Ice cream mochi, because they think that’s the standard now.

Also, all noodles are ramen. Especially cup noodles. Which is confusing because, if you go to an Asian market, the cup noodles can be udon, soba, yakisoba (grilled noodles), or even pho noodles.

It is that way in MS. When I was in Southeast TX it was Sugar Water. First time I heard someone say that I looked at them oddly for a few seconds till I realized what they meant.

To my father any small disc is a CD. For example "Hey where is that CD you got me with the Charles Bronson movies" or "Here's your CD back. I didn't like the new Hellboy movie" hands me a Blu ray.

But then I hear many say "I am gonna tape that" when they are using a DVR.

Reminds me of a topic recently about Robert Kellum aka The Maestro in WCW. Looked him up recently and he has been on the Board of Directors of Eno River Media in July 2019. Basically a North Carolina film advocacy group. Anyway under his name they don't list him has spending time in WCW, but instead WWE:

All the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles basically act like Michelangelo.

Back to video games...based on TV and movies...all video games sound like the Atari 2600.

The superhero example mentioned before was always kind of a thing, like it was one big pool rather than two major companies. SNL spoofs and such mixed DC and Marvel.
