But I don't have a clue on how to even start. I saw a poster advertising a show once in five years, and I'm pretty sure it was seven years old. Is there a resource for this sort of thing besides blind googling?

Is there a resource for this sort of thing besides blind googling? Not really, it's really googling your home town or towns near it and finding wrestling pages to follow which update you on when the promotions are coming to your area Like local wrestling still runs out of posting posters around town at local gas stations and restaurants, but it does seem to work... and depending on where you live, you're likely to see wrestling traffic.

I know for me I use Facebook. Most companies have a page and usually there's a local pro wrestling group. I'm in Atlantic Canada there's a group for Atlantic Canada insides. Try typing your city and if that's doesn't work then your state and add wrestling. No a guarantee but an idea to try

Wrestlemap might help? www.wrestlemap.com/Sadly twitter is the most common place to find info, maybe Instagram. Even some big indies like gcw don't have their own websites. Those that do are often light on info. In the UK a lot of local events use eventbrite, maybe its used in America (im guessing) or there's a common equivalent over there I recently found out that f***ing Swindon UK of all places had dragongate wrestlers appearing last month. Shun Skywalker in Swindon. Crazy. But also proves how little awareness they can raise with zero marketing budget.

Usually in the US most States have Facebook page for fans. See if there is one for you if you are in hte US.
Me,and this was 14 years ago,saw a flyer on the wall at the library. Went to show and ended up talking to most of the roster asking about other shows in the area.
Maybe a year later a FB group for MS Indie wrestling was created. And is a ok resource for shows in the state.
We had had people tell us they learned about a fed cause of seeing footage on youtube. That is why any match I put up I include the city/town name and state in the data.
Good luck.

My advice is also to scour coffee shops and other stuff in your town usually local wrestling fliers will be there especially with smaller than shiny outfits.

Another thing is figure out what in your area wouldd hold a wrestling show,so school gyms,VFW halls,Elks lodges, civc centers, etc. Like my town every fed that has ran it uses the civic center. Another one I goto often runs a VFW Hall then a Civic Center in another town.

Thank everyone, I'm off to a good start with all this advice. Look like I will have to travel a little to see things, but it's honestly an exciting prospect none the less.

Thank everyone, I'm off to a good start with all this advice. Look like I will have to travel a little to see things, but it's honestly an exciting prospect none the less. If you can find someone to travel with you. Over the last 14 years we got a group of 6 of us that all live in or around the same town. So most shows a few will carpool to a show. Have fun at the shows. And while there if you see any refs, wrestlers, valets be sure to ask them about other shows nearby. They will know cause some of them wil be booked on them. The guy I now ride to many shows with I met at a show almost 12 years ago. Realized last year we live 45 minutees from each other right off a major hwy he takes to most shows. So I am on the way he swings by grabs me. I throw in on gas and buy snacks for the ride. Plus gives him someone to watch his table and make sure he has a copy of his match filmed.

Not sure where you’re located but down here in the Southeast, our discount grocery stores and Dollar Generals usually have a poster up once a month with whatever is coming up next.
I’ve never been. But I’ve seen em.

I got lucky and happened to drive by a VFW all that time that advertised one until I finally checked it out. Also just randomly was given tickets for Ego Pro Wrestling next month, which appears to be Robert Anthony’s indy.

I hang a lot of event posters for work, and it seems like all of my usual spots typically have a local indy poster. Check out anywhere you can see flyers for upcoming events - community boards in grocery stores, restaurants and such - and you’re bound to see them. Record stores, tattoo parlors, barber shops, and comics/collectibles/gaming places are where I see them the most. (I hang a LOT of posters, haha). I don’t know where you’re located, but we have a ton here in the West Virginia / Ohio / Kentucky area that I can suggest. Best yet, just ask around if you know any wrestling fans in your area! And while there if you see any refs, wrestlers, valets be sure to ask them about other shows nearby. They will know cause some of them wil be booked on them. This is the most useful tip. If someone is working an indy in your area, there’s a nearly guaranteed chance they’re working EVERY indy in your area.

What region are you from? That would be helpful in terms of offering suggestions about which decent promotions run events within traveling distance.
I am New England, the best England. I know from friends a lot of stuff happens around the Boston area, but that's a bit of a trek right now.

Location at less what state can help us help better. I live in St. Louis and there was a website for all the Missouri federations. I know most anyway because of FB following them. I have three that are in my are or cross into ILL. Or go in state more. I have Glory Pro, Pro Wrestling Epic, and SICW or going in more and get WLW. Of Course bigger city with history of wrestling is easier.
Your best bet is googling pro wrestling in your town and see what comes up.

Pretty much 8 weeks before a show is in town I go and hit up any non chain business seeing if I can put a flyer up in the window. Guessing if my tiny rural area has shows within driving distance, now to me 2 to 3 hours is driving distance, where you are should. Also check Cagematch, the online database. They list most indies. No clue what ticket prices are in your area. Down this way normally 10 bucks is a GA ticket and front row is 15. A few feds are 15 GA and 20 front row. Just go in with your mind set to have fun. Ya you will see botches. But I had no clue years back that when I saw Ricky Starks trip getting into the ring in front of 70 people in McComb MS that he would be on weekly TV. Some shows you are gonna get a pile of really good matches. Then some shows you get Alabama Doink vs Heidenreich. Both are fun.
