I think Desperado could make the move to heavyweight, but if they rather not go that route, how about mysterious newcomer Masked Mikami: Would a way forward be elevating guys like Desperado and Tanahashi to heavyweight and then rebuilding the Jr scene with freelancers while the company rebuilds? An issue is that as much as people call for this, the two have indicated in the past about how they don't prefer to do it.

For all Hiromu talked about being both Jr and World Champ, you'd think he'd put his money where his mouth is.

Riddle retained The TV Title.
In other NJOA news, Tom Lawlor teamed with Davey Boy Smith Jr to win The MLW Tag Titles.

Tana’s ankle injury is worse than originally thought, so he will now miss the entire NJC tour and the match with Nemeth at Sakura Genesis. I don't like Riddle as champion, but if Tanahashi is hurt, then it was probably the right call, though a better call would be putting the belt on someone else, someone considerably more reliable.

Factions are 1000% a part of the problem too. Look how many now lack a credible leader who can slide into a main event. Chaos, HoT, United Empire, Bullet Club proper. Just 5 Guys had the champion for the last half a year and it only made everything colder and no one wants to see SANADA near that spot again. You’ve got LIJ with the top heavyweight (Naito), jr heavyweight (Hiromu), young guy (Tsuji) and the only guy established as a former champion that hasn’t left, broken down or flopped (Shingo) Everyone else has nothing aside from TMDK’s leader. Gedo is going to push all these dead factions as if nothing has changed to the detriment of everyone. Chaos was Okada. United Empire was Ospreay. Bullet Club was always a leader a lot fricking better than David Finlay. Hot is garbage. I have said for a while that, if he hadn't been shoehorned into TMDK when Jonah bailed, ZSJ would've been leading Bullet Club. And it would've been a hell of a lot better than Finlay.

Better than Finlay, for sure, though I feel like Bullet Club would have put a stink on him. TMDK being like, completely irrelevant outside of Zack isn't doing him favors, though, either.

Instead of making Hiromu and Despy go heavyweight, they could try to actually focus more on the Junior division. They have so many good guys, Best of the Super Juniors is always my favorite tournament every year, but outside of that and the Super Junior Tag League we barely get any focus on the division besides for whoever is currently feuding with the Junior champions.

They need focus, but they also need to change things up a little all the same. Hiromu, Despy, and Ishimori are for all intents and purposes the top guys, and everyone else is like 3 rungs below them. They need to more actively get Wato and DOUKI on their level, since SHO and YOH seem to really be whiffing at advancing.

Disregard David Finlay, embrace Jeff Cobb. The Virgin David Finlay vs. The Chad Jeff Cobb They book a Finlay/Cobb match, where part way through, Dario Cueto/Cesar Duran/Whatever-he-goes-by-now comes out holding the Matanza mask and the key around his neck. After Cobb beats the holy hell out of Finlay, Dario gets in the ring, puts the mask on Cobb, and Finlay gets Sacrificed to the Gods, never to be seen in NJPW again.
