Grocery shopping I prefer to use the self check out but when I eat fast food I prefer to go to the register and deal with a real person.

When I go shopping I almost never get a large amount of items so Self-Checkout is great, but I have used regular checkout if it's backed up or when I do get a cart-ful. As for fast food, I barely go inside anymore anyway.

I broadly prefer self checkout so I don't have to people.
But many of them are difficult to use.
The Waitrose one is a f***ing Karen, stfu I am already scanning the next item

I loved it until they put the scale next to them, so it ends up calling for help anyway.

No.
Makes me feel like the store is telling me "f*** you, do it yourself".
Also the scanners frequently mess up, and/or I'm trying to buy booze, so I'm gotta wait for the stoned teenage employee to finish up with the other three people having problems before I can continue.
I guess it's enabled them to do stuff like drive up delivery, but I still like the experience of walking the aisles and deciding what I want. The self-checkout makes it feel like the store resents me for that.

A few years back my mom tried to use a check at self-checkout. Felt like one of those Geico commercials.
Just....no. The employee had to come deal with it anyway, just go to the regular lane!

Only if I'm not buying hard liquor. It's awkward waiting for the guy to come over and then you have to wait for him to remove the security tag from the bottle.

Target and Walmart self checkouts go pretty fast for me so I prefer it if it's available.

I always do self checkout at the supermarket so I don't have to deal with people. It's a godsend for anyone with bad social anxiety.

Really depends if I need to be in and out I prefer it. But I am fine with regular checkout with large items.

I love the self checkouts. 99% of the time there's no wait, I get in and out super fast. I remember when Walmart put in those self checkouts that had the conveyor belt, and I watched a woman laboriously take every item out of her reusable bags in her cart, put them all on the end of the belt right up against the scanner, THEN scan every item and put them back into her reusable bags in her cart. It was one of the more amazing displays of stupidity.

Some of the workings of those things can be frustrating, and I feel weird having to call someone over especially if it rings up incorrectly. It's just easier to have them do it for me.
However, I'll bag my own groceries. I don't know how this simple process somehow gets worse and worse.

For a few things, sure. For an actual grocery run, a person.

If they’re available, absolutely. I rarely buy alcohol, so there’s no reason for me to wait in a long ass cashier line.

I always have too many groceries to use self check out. Stalls aren't big enough

I like that can use them to get rid of a lot of my excess coins without feeling like holding up the line or being insanely cheap

It’s all I use; I can’t remember the last time I used a check out staffed by a real person.
They’re better now but I remember the self check outs at the grocery store being overly sensitive. I would scan something and put it in the bag, but the computer voice would chirp “please remove the unscanned item.” WTF, I did scan it! Then, when it came time to pay, it wouldn’t let me and I heard “please stand by; help is on the way.” I had to stand there like an idiot and wait for a store employee to unlock the system with their little card.

I think I like it at Sam's Club and no where else at this point. Like this is only convenient if I can pick up the handheld gimmick, beep all the shit in my cart, pay and go. If I have to put it in the f***ing "bagging area" or a real person has to come over at any point then this is pointless.

Walmart all the time. I don't like dealing with people and most of the time it is the fastest, if not only, option. Usually the same at Dollar General.
Usually not with fast food unless you count using the app to order and pick up.
NEVER at Costco though. Their's are garbage where's everything needs to be placed in the bagging area and cannot be put in bags or boxes because it throws the scale off and locks the machine.
