Not one match, but Randy Savage absolutely needed the Wrestlemania IV tournament to take him to the next level. Randy was a star, but he was a chickenshit upper Midcard heel who became an upper Midcard babyface who couldn’t decisively put away the Honky Tonk Man. Once he won the tournament, he was as close as anyone in that era had come to being Hogan’s equal on the babyface side and was now seen as a guy who could take on Andre without help and survive. And clearly people bought him at that level considering how well Wrestlemania V did when it was Randy’s turn against Hogan. Speaking of Randy’s, the Backlash 2004 match Randy Orton had with Mick Foley is what made him the main eventer he’s been basically ever since. Foley is so good at taking people to that next level, I think Foley considers this his best match too Foley does consider it his best match. He's mentioned it several times on his podcast.

Just adding how special Mick was.

The Ladder Match at WrestleMania X moved Shawn Michaels from a cowardly heel who bumped like crazy to a main event level star.
Arguably Starrcade 83 set up Flair as the guy for the NWA and was the final step in the power moving from Missouri to the Carolinas.

Ultimate Warrior/Honky Tonk Man at Summerslam 88 has to be way up on the list.

123 Kid versus Razor Ramon. Razor was had been built up pretty good early on in WWF, he was kind of floundering but I don't think any fans thought Kid would beat him. I don't even remember which "Kid" name he had. It was either Lightning or Kamikaze Kid at the time, before the win and going to 123. This was obviously meant to catapult him but it propelled him to a lengthy career and one where he is still in demand for interviews and autographs.

DDP vs. Randy Savage at Spring Stampede 1997 was the match that took Page to that upper echelon. Dude was hella over before that, but that was the match that made 12 year old me realize he was a big deal.
Triple H vs. The Rock at Fully Loaded 1998 (the two-out-of-three falls match) is the match that cemented them both as top guys to me.
Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn SHOULD have been the star making moment for Lynn. Unfortunately, injuries and Heyman being hesitant to pull the trigger for too long caused his stock to plummet, and he never rose above the light heavyweight division in WWE or the X Division in TNA. He did win the ROH title, but that was more of a thank you run than anything.

I feel it was the CATC match against Sheamus that made audiences realize this Gunther guy is a star.

Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte cemented Rhea's place as a megastar. It felt like a real passing of the torch, and paid off their great matches at WM 36 and MITB 2021 which had irked many fans at the time due to Charlotte winning.
Speaking of Charlotte, her and Natalya's 2014 Takeover match was where she really arrived as a top prospect, along with showing where the women's division was headed.

He'd had 2 matches as a straight up jobber, as I recall it was Doink and Mr Hughes. Just enough to establish him as that level but not trap him there before the Razor match.

I think we'll look back on the Extreme Rules match between Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton at NXT No Mercy as the moment when Tiffany Stratton elevated from generic pretty villain to the potential torchbearer of the WWE women's division.

Four Sasha/Mercedes related matches
Becky's send off match in NXT Unstoppable The two Bayley matches (Brooklyn and the Iron Woman match) Bianca vs Sasha in WM 37, which acts as a fun echo to another passing of the torch match: Rhea vs Charlotte And recently, Mercedes vs Stephanie Vaquer

I stopped watching WWF from about late Summer to May 1993 so that was one of my first Raws I saw. I feel like he was touted by the commentators as a good talent but just couldn't crack a win. I'm glad he has been able to get his life on the right track.
