Who Could Most Use the Push of Beating Gunther for the IC?

I love Sami, but I don’t really think he needs it. He’s cooled off A LOT since last year and could be a great IC champion. But Sami has a great track record and I think he could get to the next level without having to break Gunther’s amazing reign. He just needs another hot angle and it doesn’t have to be as unique as ending Gunther’s reign.

I could see more of an argument being made for Jey Uso. The twin thing was always going to be tough to break out of. Jey has done an incredible job of doing just that and having a moment that could be way more memorable than Ultimate Warrior beating Honky would further cement this.

Then there’s Chad Gable. He’s a great talent that’s been booked horribly at times. Whereas I think Sami and Jey might thrive no matter what, Gable could easily fall back down the card. And he’s 38, so, he’s not getting any younger.

Personally I’d go with someone younger that’s probably in NXT now. Oba Femi seems like a great candidate and a great matchup for Gunther. The biggest drawbacks though is he is too green and really lacks the track record. If his head is screwed on straight then such a title win sometime later this year could be a great investment. But at the same time it could be an Ultimate Warrior/Brock Lesnar botch of too much, too soon.

Gunther does the usual heel 'no one has beat me, I've beat everyone' promo.

Ilja debuts, commentary puts over he was the one that beat Gunther for his last record setting title run.

Ilja wins, you have a rivalry that can run and run over Ilja being the one man who Gunther can't get the best of.

Great way for someone like Carmelo, Ilja, or Trick to debut on the main roster assuming they sustain the push and don’t lose interest fast. Bron Breaker too

I'd like to see Montez Ford be moved up the card. He's great and right now he's being dragged down in a go-no-where team.

Have Montez win it, you can do Montez vs Lashley. Thar feels like a sufficiently important program to start off the new IC champ's reign.

Trick because I think he can be a WrestleMania main eventer. I really like guys like Ilya and Melo but I don't see that in the cards for them at this stage.

I didn't even think of this until you posted it. But Montez is a STAR. You wouldn't even need to break up the Profits. Just have Ford win the IC title and then build animosity between him & Lashley. Ford wins clean, Lashley puts him over with a handshake and an endorsement.

I’d be down with Zayn beating him. It would be Sami’s first singles title on the main roster as a face. But the year and a half Zayn had he shouldn’t be winning the IC title it should be the WHC. Other than Zayn I want Jey Uso to beat Gunther for it or a returning Sheamus. Ilja Dragunov beating Gunther would be cool as hell though since he’s the guy who beat Hunther for the UK title a couple years ago.

Nobody is going to beat Gunther for a long time I don't think. They can realistically have this guy hold the bet for 5+ years in a Bruno Sammartino esque legacy run to make the belt into a thing.


Eventually it gets so big that main eventers want to challenge him for it. Let Gunther hold it forever. It gets better the longer he holds it.

But if you HAD to beat Gunther, Dominick Mysterio is the guy I would pick. Then you do a 2 month build of Gunther wrecking Judgement Day on the way back to getting back the title he was screwed out of by that slimy, disgusting Dominick Mysterio.

I really like the idea of Roman losing his title while Jey wins his first singles title, the night after Wrestlemania. Give Gunther one more big win, then send him off into the main event scene against Cody.
