Even though I still enjoyed his matches a lot, I'd still have to say Stone Cold was on top of the world in 98/99 but his in ring style was limited by injury

John Cena is 2003? He got a lot better in the ring as he was pushed. However, the Dr. of Thuganomics/rapper was probably his best character work.
How about Hogan in 1997? nWo was insanely over, but you had some stinkers of matches and the Starrcade debacle.

Goldust in 1996-97. The character was always interesting to me, but Dustin got super slow and pedestrian in the ring.

I think his worst in ring period was 2002-2003. He had drop foot and was barely mobile. By 2007-2008 he had repaired it and while nowhere near his best he was leagues better than 2003. Their.

I'd argue for Undertaker the first 3-4 years (until Yokozuna & friends sent him back to the land of the dead) of his career was great character work, in ring was intentionally not so great, but it made the gimmick.

Cigarette smoking, suit wearing Immortal Jeff Hardy was a character highlight at the same time he was personally falling apart and his ring work was slipping.
