So the Punk promo yesterday that kind of mentioned Vince had me thinking, what other holy shit 4th wall breaking promos are there. I guess the pipebomb counts, scrum gate as well. I think Cena roasting Roman on his drawing abilities was shocking at the time

Looking back, Dusty and Flair were going back and forth about an upcoming match in an arena with tickets sold and Flair said something like, "I'm not doing a job in front of 20,000 people!" and Dusty replied, "Well, I'm not doing a job in front of 20,000 people either, so where does that leave us?"

I’m talking like off the wall shit, not just snarky insider comments

I'd guess both Hogan's comments, and later Russo's were pretty shocking at the time.
First, Hogan flat out saying that screwy booking has put the company in the position it's in, the Russo going on about the backstage politics, running down Hogan, etc.
WCW was doing a lot of shooty shit during that time, but Bash at the Beach is definitely the most infamous.

ECW breaking from the NWA. One of the early worked shoot moments.

Dolph Ziggler saying "Botchamania" just for no real reason.

At this point, the only thing that would "Holy Shit" me is if someone directly brought up rumors of violent criminality that aren't already well known.
Or if someone brought up the Colt Cabana lawsuit stuff to Punk.

Was it Doug Gilbert that brought up Lawler’s rape charge and got a show thrown off the air?

"The only reason you became WWE Champion is because Triple H didn't want to work Tuesdays". That one was actually good.

Was it Doug Gilbert that brought up Lawler’s rape charge and got a show thrown off the air? Oh boy. First of all he definitely finished the whole promo, second of all that wasn't even the only accusation he threw out there. He also accused the booked Randy Hales of smoking crack while he was calling the shows. And I think a third thing I can't remember.

How are we defining this? Is it just mentioning real life things as part of a storyline or promo or does it have to be WCW 1999-2000 where they would admit wrestling was a work during some of their angles? ECW leaving the NWA in 1994 was real, but ECW still acted like wrestling was real when mentioning the NWA split on the air. Vince Russo, though, took Hulk Hogan insisting he get to go over Jeff Jarrett and tried to make a storyline out of it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, it'd be making RL accusations against others.

It was terrible and stupid, and the quintessential example of why worked shoot promos rarely work because they presume that every single fan in attendance knows the backstage drama of every wrestler and wrestling company when that's not necessarily true...but, "what's the matter Sid, can't find your scissors?" definitely fits the bill of off the wall shit that just kind of leaves your mouth agape if you're aware of what's being referenced.

I feel like Dusty and Flair would always trade these very real-life sounding barbs at each other in promos. I remember one episode where Flair was out first bragging about all the women he's been with. Dusty came out later and said something like "I'm a man of class. I take my lady to a fine dinner and then we're off to enjoy the evening. You know it's not hard to find some dogs to take home at 3 o'clock in the morning"

Along the lines of the second one…Brandi cooking Ethan Page by telling him they only signed him to get to Josh Alexander was one of the all time great cross company burns.
